I feel more comfortable using the interlock grip when putting. I know the overlap grip is the most common, and I have used that most of my life since I started golfing several years ago. But I was never that good of a putter. Just a few weeks ago, I gave the interlock grip a try and instantly felt more comfortable, and I've putted a little better as well. Does anyone else use the interlock grip for putting, and do you think I should stick with it if I'm getting better results?

I use it because it works for me. If it works for you, I wouldn;t change it.

Putting is very individual. Go with what works.

I putt using an interlock grip with left hand low. Interlock is only way I can stabilize the hands consistently, and get good palm-to-palm feel.

I got a free copy of the Phil Mickelson "Short Game' DVD at a recent demo day. I'm interested in what he has to say about chipping and lob short. I will NOT, however, watch any footage on his putting style. A one-paragraph summary of his style reveals it is completely different from what I was taught, and use.

That was the grip that i used before i went underground with my long putter... I feel like the interlocking (much like for my golf swing) creates a more solid connection with my hands to the club and allows me to loosen my grip while still feeling more control .. there is literally no advice someone can give on a putting grip - see v.j. singh

I don't believe you should use interlock for putting. For me my feel is so much worse when putting with an interlock grip, the club just feels too tight in the hands. When I first switched to more of an overlap (not a traditional overlap as my left index finger is more straight down and overlaps multiple finger) I instantly had better feel although it did feel weird at first. I recently started hitting all of my very touch shots even short chips with this grip.

I guess though, if it works for you then no need to change it.

i've always used an interlock grip for putting as well, even though i use the vardon grip on all of my other clubs.  i honestly never really gave it a thought until this thread.  it just felt right, and my putting is certainly one of the more solid aspects of my game, if not the most solid.

as others have said, putting is very individualized.  harvey penick wrote that bobby locke (i think it was locke...) hooked all of his putts right into the hole, and that while harvey wasn't about to teach that method to any of his students, he sure wasn't going to try to make bobby change it because it worked for him.

I use baseball grip for putting and chipping, I like to feel it in all my fingers.  I use interlocking for anything else though

I use interlocking for everything.  I tried changing my putter grip (baseball, lefty grip, overlap, etc).  Some of them felt good but overall I felt that keeping a consistent grip through all my shots feels better.  But this is definitely a personal preference.  Like others have said I would use whatever putter grip feels best for you. Its all about personal feel.

(Sheepish... head down... hands in pockets and drawing in the dirt with the toe of my shoe......)

I'm ten fingers on all full swings with all clubs, and overlap with the putter.  Yes, that says ten fingers.  Sorry, my father was too, taught me that way, and I made it all the way down to a 4 cap with it at one point.  Tried and tried to change years ago, but never could get over the feeling of a lack of control through the impact zone.  10 it is!

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
