#1 now tied for the lead after 4 birdies in a row. Coming to his nemesis now though....the 14th. +3 on the hole so far this week.

What are the odds of Simpson and Donald being paired together for all four rounds in this tournament? Of course, the first two are given, but that scores fall such that they are paired together the last two rounds too, it's pretty strange. And what a round by Luke so far. I thought he was out of it being as far back as he was at the beginning of the day, but he is certainly putting up a good fight. There are players behind him that can catch up, but he's still playing incredible golf, especially with all the stuff on the line. And right now he makes his sixth birdie in a row. What is going on? He's one hell of a putter. Needn't mention his streak of four hundred thirdy odd something holes without a 3-putt, which just recently was broken. And he's made two bogies.

I think so too. I'd give it to him. He had to win the tournament, too, but to do so knowing and playing with the guy he had to beat for the money title, I think he earned it. That was some clutch play.

Greetings .... The PGA Tour's Player-of-the-Year award, voted on by the players, will be made known later this year, or early next year. Meanwhile, the PGA of America has already given its points-based POY award to Luke Donald. He edged out Webb Simpson by a small margin. The PGA of America's Player-of-the-Year Points System works as follows .... 30 points for a win in the Masters, US Open, British Open or PGA Championship 20 points for a win in the Players Championship 10 points for a win in any other PGA Tour event awarding money that is counted on the Official Money List. -NO- points awarded for finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Bonus Points are also awarded to the Top 10 Leaders each in scoring average and official money, with first place worth 20 points, 2nd worth 18 points, 3rd worth 16 points, and so on down to 10th worth 2 points. The 2011 Leaders were ... (1) Luke Donald - won twice (10 points each) and was first in both money and scoring average (20 points each) for a total of 60 points. (2) Webb Simpson - won twice (10 points each) and was second in both money and scoring average (18 points each) for a total of 56 points. (3) Keegan Bradley - won the PGA Championship (30 points) and Byron Nelson (10 points), but was out of the Top 10 in both scoring average and money. He finished with 40 points. (4) Charl Scwhartzel - won the Masters (30 points) and was 7th in Scoring (8 points) for a total of 38 points. (5) Nick Watney - won twice (10 points each), was 3rd in money (16 points) and 5th in scoring (12 points) for a total of 38 points. (6) KJ Choi - won the Players (20 points), and was 4th in money (14 points) for a total of 34 points. (7) Steve Stricker - won twice (10 points each), and was 3rd in scoring average (16 points) and 8th in money (6 points) for a total of 32 points. Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

    • Day 116 12-6 Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
