A question, are you doing these 200 - 250 press ups as one continuous set? Likewise are you holding a plank for 8 minutes? If you are, big respect!!

No way. I'm splitting them into 3 sets. Whoever can do that is one dangerous dude! :-D

Pushups 3 x (75-90)

Planks 3 x (2:30-3:00)

If I'm tired and/or end of day, I'm at the low end of those numbers, if beginning of the day after a cup of coffee, I'm on the high end)

Played swamp golf Sunday due to the excessive rain.......sloshed to a 91, and it was an ugly 91, but it was a workout.  Also, loaded and unloaded dining room set, while driving 4 hours.......a little workout, a lot of beating.

Back in the gym today, Chest and tri.....4 chest exercises, 3 tricep, 8 minutes on treadmill at the end - limited time as this is done at lunch.   Putting kiddos to be momentarily, then to the range for a quick bucket.

I hit 3 buckets of balls and chipped for an hour then went home had a protein shake watched tv. Later went to the gym for an hour leg presses, ran a mile stretches, crunches and 17.5 pound curls 3 sets of 20.

Leg day - hams, quads, presses, and calves.....

Chest and triceps today, good workout....basketball for an hour plus tonight......great workout day, other than the cold beer I drank tonight, one of my best friends had a birthday.

Man, it's been too long since I've posted...a bunch of names here that I don't even recognize. :-D

Good to see some of the regulars still at it. I've been out of commission for a while...separated my left shoulder in November, then after I sort of recovered from that, smashed my ribs in February. (I'm not very smart)

Now I'm just running...figure it's the only thing I can really do for the time being, so I'm training for a 10k to sort of keep me in shape. Hopefully I can start lifting again in a week or 2...

Skipped my workout with weights today and decided to ride the stationary bike and read Lowest Score Wins! Darn books getting in the way of my real training.

Yesterday I finished JIM STOPPANI'S SHORTCUT TO SHRED: DAY 39 - CHEST, TRICEPS, ABS from www.bodybuilding.com. That guys program is killing me... in a good way. We'll see how I do headed into the last week of my 12 week $250k challenge. So far I've lost 12 pounds and lost a few percent body fat. I'm hoping to be in good shape for this golf season.

Stoppani is a monster, and has GREAT programs. I may have to look into that one when I can start lifting again.

Ran 5 miles in the always fun 35 degree spring morning here...

Still getting my pace up to where it needs to be...

Been going to the gym 5 days a week in the morning before work and have dropped 25 pounds since January.  Goal is roughly another 25!

Nice! Good to see you going strong!

Was finally able to lift a little today for the first time. I swear I have the body of a 75 year old. After a 6 mile run yesterday morning I was in crippling pain (outside of left knee). My Uncle the running guru diagnosed me with IT Band Syndrome. Gave me some stretches and workouts to do.

So I ran a mile today, biked a half an hour, and did some lighter weight squats. No pain...just very very minor discomfort. Always something...lol

Thanks, mang!

You ran 6 miles?  I'm not sure I've done that in one stretch like ever, haha.

Good luck feeling better soon.  The real question, though, does your knee hurt when you swing a golf club? ;-)

Did he suggest a foam roller too? That will really help IT band issues. Roll the top area near your hip and the area near your knee before stretching. It really helps and loosen the tendons up and makes stretching more effective.

When you roll this first time, it will be very tender. You may be only able to stand 10 passes in the area. After a couple of days, it will be easier.

Cycling can create tight IT bands if you don't stretch. I know this from experience. I raced for about a dozen years.

Good luck.

Yeah. Me neither, until a couple weeks ago...started running to train for a race.

No clue about the golf...haven't swung a club in months due to other injuries (separated shoulder, jacked up ribs...etc.,)

I was looking into a foam roller. I don't have one but I read about using tennis balls. I have some of those around somewhere.

When I say I hit the stationary bike, I mean very slow and relaxed...just to keep blood flowing.

Tennis ball is ok, but a roller works much better. It's standard physical therapy equipment for IT band issues. They are pretty cheap now and you can find them at sporting goods stores. A lacrosse ball would be better.

I've use an 8'' piece of pvc pipe in a pinch! :-P

Yeah I was thinking of just grabbing one off of Amazon. But I have to run to Dick's anyway, since I need some real running shorts. Wearing heavy ass basketball shorts running sucks!

I ran a mile pain free yesterday, and will bump it to 3 VERY easy (12 min/mile) miles today to test it out. Don't want to risk making it worse, but at the same time...I'm competing in May, so I need the miles.

Ran 4.5 miles yesterday. Still trying to work on my 10k time.

Alternated mile speeds (slow, fast, slow, fast). 7:56 on the 2nd mile, 7:37 on the 4th mile. My goal is 8 minute miles, so I'm getting there...

Today I'll hit legs with the weights...hate it lol

I mowed the lawn yesterday afternoon before t-storms rolled in and before that, did flexibility and stretching before a 1 hr golf lesson.

During the week, I do a program called golfstrong -6 45 minutes workouts works on distance, accuracy, and flexibility. It is a combo of various exercises you will not find running, weightlifting, etc. This program was so different and intense after 3 wks, it was time for 1.5 hrs of massage therapy where I was beaten and stretched to my limits.

I also lift a few weights and bike 12-15 minutes w intensity intervals about 4X per week.

Ran a quick 5k around the neighborhood today. Speed is getting there...wasn't planning on running fast, but was feeling good and pain free so I decided to push it a little.

8:45 min/mi exactly for a total of 27:08. Wanted to beat 27:00 but started too slow.

    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
    • I've got my pain mostly under control and the meds are working.   I'd like to join.
    • I would definitely attend if my calendar allows.
    • Finland: I've played Mid-Night Golf in Finland. Really cool. I looked at the schedule for my week out there and I saw that we were teeing off at 9PM... Feels weird, 9 PM tee time. But it was really great. We finished well after 1AM and sat around and drank on the golf course terrace. It was cool. It's really easy to loose track of time when the sun doesn't set.  Here's a picture of me in Finland hitting my approach on the final hole. It's roughly 1:30AM in this photo.  Egypt: Another cool experience was playing golf in Egypt. The entire course is sand. The greens are called browns, cuz they are just sand with oil poured on them and pounded down a bit. Your ball gets kind of oily when you putt, but the caddy cleans it for you after each hole. You carry around a little piece of fake grass (maybe 2 foot square) and place your ball on it each time before you hit. That is except when you go into a sandtrap. The sandtraps are just areas marked off where you don't get to use your little piece of astro-turf. Sometimes they are dug down a bit to make a bunker, sometimes not.  Spain: No special events or anything, but I played a bunch of golf in Spain in the mid-1990's. At that time Spain's economy wasn't doing the best and Europe hadn't quite switched to the Euro. So Spain was using the Peseta. The country of Spain has some incredibly breathtaking courses. (incredible scenery in general) But because of the conversion from the dollar to the Peseta (If memory serves it was 150 to 1), I got to play them for what I remember as being incredibly inexpensive prices. Gorgeous country and really nice people.  Holland or The Netherlands: I lived for a couple of years in what's called The Flevoland in Holland. It's one of the Dutch provinces and it's all land that was recovered from the sea. So, it's all under sea-level. One of the courses I played a few times out there had flags on every hole to show just how deep the water would be if it wasn't for the dams.
