Actually the walking does count, but you could enhance that by carrying your clubs overhead, jogging in-between holes, and doing jumping jacks when you sink a put .

Not gonna lie, the most I do is use a pull cart and walk.  Hopefully will get back to my normal exercise routine which consisted of me walking around 5 to 10 km daily and attempting to control my diet.  Need to start using the gym and doing exercise other than walking, but not sure if and when that will happen

Earlier this morning, not including "warm up" sets:

Squats at 3x5x125 (moved up weight because I had done 3x8x115 last time)

Press;  wanted to do 3x8x75 but on the second set, I only got to seven.  So 75 lbs it will be for press again next time (tentatively scheduled for Sunday).

You might be glad to know I do this quite a bit.  I don't just mean "I walk when I play golf" (although given the choice, I'll walk and not ride), but recreational walking and biking.  Just yesterday, I walked... I think 13 miles, give or take.  My phone was fully charged when I left my house, but between listening to podcasts via bluetooth headset and using UA's "MapMyWalk" app, I had about 25% power left after 11.5 miles, so I stopped tracking mileage.  I was about two miles from my house at the time and got back with about 12% power.

(So now, I'm going through some old powerbanks, most of which have former employer's logos on them [they were gifts / handouts, not employer property in case anyone reading this is wondering], trying to find one that still works so next time, I can track the full walk... and walk a bit more)

All this exercise the past 7-8 weeks might be why I'm down 10 pounds since mid-June.

I have been crucified  on this forum for illustrating them, so now I only post to older golfers because the young ones only believe in weights.

Where has this happened? I don’t recall anyone doing this. I do mobility exercises as part of my workout regime.

Very good, you are setting a great example of someone who benefits from low impact exercise and walking is the best.

It is especially helpful to walk on grass instead of pavement. Since there is give in the ground this  works more of the muscles in the feet. Walter Payton, the great running back said he ran hills and mountains as part of his training because it best simulated what his muscles would experience on the football field. He attributed that to less injuries to his body.

I thought Sweetness liked to dance.  At least, that's what the song said. ;-)

I'm not sure where I'd go to run on grass;  there's plenty of places to take a long walk on dirt or artificial surfaces around here, but I don't see anywhere to take a long walk on grass.  But there are some parks, I'll aim to walk through the grass next time I'm at those.  Or maybe I can go run windsprints at a nearby football field, I haven't had to do those in a while.

As for this morning's weights, I managed deadlift 205 (5 reps) after trying to bench 3x7x125, but on the third set, I only got to six.

This is my third day in a row getting on the new bike and going out for about 45 minutes around the neighborhood. It amazes me how many hills I could go up as a kid and not feel it. Now every hill is a burn!

yes, it is amazing how many other things we did not feel as a kid that we feel now. It is like discovering things we never knew we had

It sure does . It is a lot harder then people think. I have been doing it and teaching it for 23 years.

I enjoy it as well and have probably been doing it for 25+ years. Many of the stretches and positions are similar to the warm ups we did in gymnastics when I was young. I also combine some of the rehab exercises I got from my PTs after my shoulder and knee surgeries. They all seem to focus on doing the proper movements and active and static stretching/exercise just as yoga does.

It did not get to be 5000 years old by not working. Gymnastics and PT use a lot of the same principles. If you are doing some flow, then you are helping your golf game because it keeps the muscles working together as a unit, dynamically. Keep up the good work.

It’s pretty much all flow. I’ve put together a routine from moves I’ve learned over the years. I like flow the most because I can focus on different areas I as go. I also focus on the breathing a lot, which both the gymnastics and PT emphasized.

You hit upon another great point, the breathing. Nothing is taken for granted more than the breathing. I have a video of an interview with Aaron Rodgers of the Packers. It was taken after the Dallas Cowboys game a few years ago, when he led a drive in the playoffs to beat the Cowboys in the closing seconds.

He was asked what he was thinking about as he waited on the sidelines to go back on the field for that last drive. He replied " I was not thinking about anything. I was listening to my breath. I wanted to make sure it was smooth and easy so I would remain calm and relaxed.  Arron does Yoga.

After seeing the driver distance average from yesterday, I couldn't wait to get back to training today.  Last night, I went on a 17 mile bike ride, including climbing a hill I had never successfully climbed before on my bike -- last night was my first time going up it without having to stop and walk.  Then this afternoon, back to the weights.  3x6x125 squats, 3x5x80 press (last set was at 7 reps), but capped out at 3 reps at 205 for deadlift (despite having done 5 earlier in the week).  I did two sets of three for that.

    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
