He will in the sense that any pro golfer he works with in the future will make sure he signs a non-disclosure agreement and doesn't share anything that they'd regret seeing end up in a book.Β  I have to think Haney's decided his career working with pro's is done and he's using the book to bank some retirement money until he getsΒ involved in more shows on GC and maybe commentating.

One would think The Haney Project would hurt his reputation, too, but it doesn't seem to have done so.

I finally had a chance to read the April issue of Golf Digest. There are several video/audio clips of Haney (iPad version of the mag) along with several excerpts from his book 'The Big Miss'. Haney came off as a guy who takes things people say as gospel or literally instead of figuratively. Like if I said, man I love playing golf. I want to be a professional golfer. Then in Haney's mind, I was going to quit my job as a sales engineer, and take up golf for a living. Where in reality, I would watch the golf channel, play golf on the weekends, practice during the week at the range, but still work at my full-time sales job... And do it all successfully. The excerpts from Haneys book was silly. Especially when he talked about Tiger playing video games where he could be a Navy SEAL. It was clear to me that Haney doesn't understand the generation who grew up playing Nintendo, Sega, Commodore 64, Xbox, Playstation. He thought when watching Tiger play SOCOM, that due to his intense game play, that somehow proved he wanted to be on a SEAL team. :face palm: Then he goes on to talk about how Tiger would get approved for access to go train with the SEAL team at various Navy bases over time. First, Haney was never with Tiger during these trainings. But he seemed to think that because Tiger enjoyed these trainings so much, he was proving that Tiger may actually leave golf to become a SEAL. Tiger is a unique athlete, who with his celebrity gains unique access to events and various walks of life. I'm sure that if his people ask the military if Tger can participate in SEAL training activities, more than likely the Navy will find a way to incorporate him into the mix. Does this mean he is a SEAL? No. It's simply that he has perks and access to things that Hank couldn't understand. This book is going to be a fun read - but it just makes me think Hank has no concept of reality... And struggled with understanding Tiger (age / generation gap)... And his celebrity access beyond golf.

I think he's got great representation and his resume with Tiger is more than enough for most. Β Barkley and Romano were just bumps on the road. Β As we saw at the PGA Show he's got more sponsors than most PGA tour pros

I agree. After reading some of these excerpts I will not be getting this book. For Haney to even think Tiger could just join the Navy and be a seal is ridiculous. I can only imagine what other things Haney will talk about from his perspective. It sounds like he was just reaching for things to talk about that make zero sense but sound interesting.

Based on the article, it appears Haney confirmed Tiger had done some training with the SEALS, but as was stated that doesn't mean he was going to become a SEAL.Β  I don't understand why GD chose to waste three pages of the article on the non-story of Tiger becoming a SEAL.Β  I only point I saw from Haney that justified even writing about it in his book was he felt the time Tiger spent with theΒ SEALs tookΒ away from the available time he and HaneyΒ could haveΒ focused on improving his golf game.

Haney has said he is done coaching pro golfers. I also doubt he needs any money these days. Β But he really should stop whoring out his name to any training device someone shows him. He is almost as bad Pelz (who at least I think invented most of his).

I pre-ordered *The Big Miss* last night and even get Hank Haney's Essential's - Strategy DVD free!

I admit that I find Haney entertaining and once in awhile find some advice that helps me. (although i appear to be in the minority on this board)

If I thought the book was going to be all about Tiger's personal life, I would have had no interest. I have read one of his instruction books and enjoyed it, even if I never used any of it.

I would imagine that fans of Haney would enjoy the book - and I am sure that there are enough of them to put a few $$$ in his pocket.

As far as those that think he shouldnt write it - that's on Tiger for not having a non-disclosure clause. He seemed to have one with everyone else.

Now if the book does end up being about every waitress/ porn star Tiger ever picked up........................

I will take back everything I said

Potentially the biggest book on possibly the great golfer our our time...and one which should appeal to all: TW fanboys / haters / indifferent.

Jaime Diaz is the one of the best golf writer in the business and I have no doubt 'The Big Miss' will be tastefully done, and anyone who doesn't think Hank Haney has insight into what has made one of the greatest champions in sporting history is being shortsighted.
And why would Haney write anything scandalous...didn't he leave Tiger? (not the other way round?)

Of course, releasing it a week before The Masters is down to the publishers, not Haney..and why everyone is slagging Haney, calling his 'classless' for releasing this book before they've read anything in it, is pretty funny.

If you think Tiger didn't fire Hank, then you must also think everyone who resigned from a job at the White House was actually resigning of their own decision, too. Hank was fired - Tiger wasn't returning calls or texts, was knowingly shopping for a new instructor, was not working with Hank, etc. He was fired.

We have seen excerpts from the book, but even if we hadn't, it's still possible to say it's "classless" to share private conversations and interactions held by someone who had you over for dinner, who called you a friend, who allowed you to sleep in his home, etc. Hank made plenty of money off Tiger's fame, and this is little more than another cash grab.

And again, I'll say: I've got about a thousand better ways to spend my time than reading this, particularly since if the best parts of the book (like a movie trailer) are out already, the book will be booooooring .

Seems pretty simple to me. If you broadcast things that you were told in confidence (without permission), then it's classless, whether or not it's negative. RichF, how classy would it be if Tiger wrote a book and said Elin was a great lay? I mean, after all, it's complimentary, so it must be classy, right?

Well, the vilification of Haney is expected I suppose, but where is the criticism of Woods?
He has surrounded himself over the years with the worst possible group: a plethora of *****s, chatty coaches, antagonist caddies, etc. etc.
Sure, attack at will at Haney, but at least let's have some balance and admit Woods is an fool when it comes to selecting people he lets in his inner circle.
Because this eventually leads into...broken relationships. Coaches, caddies, wife, floozies, sooner or later everyone ends up in some kind of dispute with him. I think the haney book will also show he inspires no loyalty from anyone spent around him.

What's weird about this entire book debacle is Woods implying that his experiences with anyone are exclusive to himself!?
Megalomoniac much?
And why with the fanatical Woods fan is it that there is such an instinctive fearful reaction to anything that might come out about Woods that he doesn't have final say on?
Maybe you could say that while working with Woods, HH had the most successful run of any golf coach in history - why not share it? Perhaps he is going to get into what was the most important change made to achieve that, or break down how lessons were structured, maybe even pass on some things he learned from Woods?

Any 'fan' of 'The G.O.A.T' should be frothing at the mouth with the fact that the book might offer some insight to Woods routines and habits that helped him get there.

What if the only things he said about Tiger were the excerpts and the rest of the book was about Charles Barkley and Ray Romano?!?

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

[/quote] ha ha! He's writting a series of "The Big Miss" books. Ray Romano's would be about all his jokes not being funny. And Charlles' book would be about him actually missing the ball.

Why is it necessary to criticize Woods for something Haney is doing? Or does your dislike or hatred for Tiger Woods overflow so much that you have to find a way to criticize Woods for everything that has even a little to do with him?

Vilification is too strong a word, in my book, but hey, whatever floats your boat buddy.

Uh, okay. So Tiger should have known better and expected that his former instructor and "friend" would take private conversations and interactions and continue to make money off the guy by revealing those private conversations and interactions? In your mind, it's Tiger's fault that he was duped by Hank Haney into thinking that Hank understood that which we all seem to get: that stuff said in private is private.

So again, you believe that if one guy's a douche, it's open season and nobody anything else does can be regarded as douchey. i.e. Because Tiger cheated on Elin, Hank can be a douche and spill experiences that existed within the framework of a friendship?

Got it.

Tiger's had three caddies in his career. Some guys go through three in a month.Β A little perspective is in order, eh?

I don't know about you, but loyalty is an entirely different thing than whatever this is. Hank was called a friend, called Tiger a friend, and yet since T-Day 2K9 has done nothing to act like a friend or a former friend.

Tiger didn't write a book talking about Hank's privately expressed thoughts and feelings and emotions. His hopes, dreams, and fears. Things said in confidence and in private.Β Did he?

They're Hank's memories too, yes, and he's entitled to them, but he's not entitled to do whatever he wants with them. You cross a line when you take something that's private and you publish it.

I see none of that going on. I see people who think it's classless of Haney to share private thoughts and events publicly like he's doing.

The problem is, we already know that the book contains more than that.

I don't see the point in discussing something that we already know is not true.
