I far prefer pull carts to push carts ... seems easier to manage & doesn't look like I'm pushing a baby carriage down the fairway

I like the fact you can carry lots of beverages.

Next time someone scoffs at you, pull out a beer or gatorade packed in lots of ice. Drink it like it's extra refreshing.

Never heard of anyone getting pissed off at someone using yellow balls before. Did they think you used the range balls?

Don't you know that those yellow or pink balls won't go as far?  I think it has something to do with the lead based paint or something.

Funny this came up, I was playing two weeks ago, and as I was strapped my bag to my cart a dad and two boys came walking by.

The dad walked right up to me and said I was cheating because I was using a cart, he seemed very serious, not even sure where that came from?

All I could do was stand there with a stupid look on my face while we walked off.

But I am with you all, I put a little ice and a nice cold beverage in my bag it is always nice on a hot afternoon.

Exactly. Even though I have both, I'd rather be seen pulling a 2-wheeler than my Sun Mountain 3-wheeler. I will even cut down to 7 clubs or so to make it even easier. And those 4-wheel shopping carts that some have started to push around look even more absurd. But I will give them credit and a pass by choosing to walk rather than sitting in a gas cart and steering.

I have had a little Achilles tendonitis this year and haven't walked much. When I do walk, I like to carry. Not a big deal, just something about it. I don't like carrying a full bag though, and use a light bag and less than a full set. I have been playing a lot with my vintage clubs, though, and may look into a push cart so I can use my bigger bags and full set.

  • 2 weeks later...

I borrow my mothers push cart sometimes when my my partner decides they want to walk instead of ride.

To me... The gym is for working out (which i'm at every other day.. Squat and dead lift crew sound off!!!) not the golf course.

I also ride dirt bikes very often (ever try picking up a 210lb bike after crashing/falling?) and scuba once in awhile. Hiking down 1/2 a mile with over 60lbs of gear on me and hiking back up is something i'd avoid if there was a way. I go on back packing trips every year which entails a 45 lb sack on your back for 3-4 days while hiking all day through some gnarly terrain.

As you can see...
The last thing I want to do is strap on a bag full of clubs to my back and walk the course. If you can help make the game much easier, why not? Last place to show your macho man randy savageness is at the golf course.

I've got different friends for different activities and my golf buddies have given me smart remarks about the push cart I use with umbrella. "Heyyyy what fruits you selling today" or "heyyyy what kind of vacuum cleaner is that". I just laugh it off and never mention the other activities i partake in. Sorry for the rant, its been long due to all those push cart haters.

Wow!   These things really happen?  By his definition, PGA tour players are cheating b/c they don't even pull cart.   Their bags are carried by others.   Well, next time he comes by, while he is not looking, sneak in a 20 lb dumbbell in his golf bag .

I use a push card (3 wheeled) every time I play. Why put unnecessary strain on your back/shoulders? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I use a manual pull trolley, on the basis the one I have fits in my locker with my clubs, but, I've never fancied a push trolley either, not sure why mind, personal preference.

Overall though, I would never get an electric one, because for me, its part of the exercise I get from the game, my jeans and that are literally hanging off me, I've lost quite a bit of weight around the hips and that and it's all down to golf.

If I went anywhere in the UK for a round, say, at a posh course, I would never consider even hiring a golf cart, because the whole point of it for me is just the being out there, enjoying the course, taking it all in... Zipping about, you lose that.

When I'm abroad, we hire them mind, but, thats just the basis of getting out of the sun, as well as the fact we can keep our drinks cool in them, thats just common sense though, I love golf, but wouldnt give myself sun stroke for it! :D

Some people have a very dry sense of humor... Whether he was serious or not, I would have replied, "if you think this is cheating, just wait till I start playing..."

I usually only play 9 at a time and carry when I do.  When I get a cart someday, I will definitely get a push cart.  I have a lot of back problems and pulling things (like a roller bag through an airport or a golf cart) puts pressure/torque in all the wrong places for me.

I'm pretty much a rational, happy go lucky person, love a laugh, not serious at all, but, if he came up to me with that attitude, and in that manner, I would of probably dropped him there and then, the dick!

This reminds me.   I had a few guys who gave me hard time (one guy was dead serious) for using yellow ball (Nike Tour S, e.g.).    This guy basically said color ball is for bad players who has no idea where he hit his ball to.

If I carry, I make do with about 9 clubs.  Doesn't seem to affect my score overall.  But I prefer to use a push cart and take all 14 clubs.

Lol, you got to love them though havent you, they think they are all high and mighty but, they are the the most easiest targets in the world to wind up, and bite like a good'un too when you do... I think I would of said something like "Here mate, if I wanted to listen to an arsehole, I'd fart... Now **** off" or said "There's no need for that, I heard you are a canny lad... When your asleep!"

In fact, I probably wouldnt of been able to stop myself! :D

The worse thing about it was, he said it in front of my wife who played the whole round with a lady's ball.   And you guessed it, it was "pink" color ball.  The comment was so unexpected that I didn't think of anything smart to snap back at him.   As I was walking off to the parking lot, I realized how stupid his comment was.

Since this is a "cart" thread ... I am surprised that he didn't say anything about my pulling cart.

I'd love to use a push cart.. but so many people on the course use motored carts, I feel like I slow down play so I just join the crowd and drive.  Sometimes depending on how busy it is, I push and enjoy it.

It's irritating, but I don't want to be THAT guy that is walking down the fairway towards the ball while people in carts zoom up to the tee and wait for me to walk, hit, then walk further out of their way.

I hate feeling rushed.. and this seems to just add to it.

Actually a walker plays at a faster pace than two people in a cart. Don't feel like you are slowing the pace of play.

    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
