For hybrids and long irons, I tee it high enough so that the ball just clears the ground and is fully supported by the tee, about 1/8".  With short irons, I don't use a tee.

I never use a new tee for par 3s or par 4s where I use an iron. I have so many broken tees that I made myself or picked up laying around, I never need to buy tees for irons ever again. Even for my 3W and hybrid, broken off tees are fine.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

This is me to a "tee"..... Pretty much guaranteed to find a broken tee on the par 3's at my home course, if not then I've got back ups in the bag.

I like to have the ball just enough off the ground to be completely supported by the tee.

For iron shots, probably 1/8" to 1/4" or so.  I play some pretty long par 3s that require hybrids(for me).  For those, I tee it just a bit higher so it probably is a full 1/4" or slightly more.
