Followed one of the four who made it - Jim Herman, a lanky, seemingly quirky guy. Played great US Open type golf, fairways and greens.

Saw his playing partner cold shank a wedge from the dead center of the fairway. Short and big push cut, but he did hole out for an eagle on a par 3.

Also saw one of the qualifiers top an mid-iron 20 feet on the range. I don't think I ever saw anyone top a ball while practicing in all the pro tournaments I've watched.

The 14-year-old (!!) Andy Zhang lost in a playoff. How crazy good is that kid?

Sabbatini and Levin both failed to qualify today. Not a great last couple of days for them.

Levin can still play his way into the Open. He's ranked 61st in the world this week, and any player ranked within the top 60 after this weekend gains entry into Olympic. Levin will be playing in Memphis, and he'll be playing in the Open with a good result.

Why do so many strong players try and qualify in Ohio? If I wanted to qualify, I'd make an effort not to play there, no?

The Memorial ends the day before so the players don't have to travel and there are more spots, 16 guys qualified at Scioto
