Dufner has a 65 in him tomorrow and force a playoff, with who I don't know.

Greetings .... Don't know if any one else has posted this information already ..... To explain Beau Hossler's situation -- As an amateur, he receives no prize money at whatever position he winds up at. However, there are some rewards he could earn, such as .... Top-10 finish earns a return invitation to the 2013 US Open. Top-8 finish earns invitation the 2013 Masters. If "the absolutely unthinkable" happens, and young Mr. Hossler -WINS- he would obviously not receive the 1st-place check of $1.44 million. That would be passed down to the runner-up(s). However, he would earn all the following ..... 10-year exemption to the US Open itself. 5-year exemptions to the Masters, British Open, Players Championship and (if he turns pro prior to event) PGA Championship. ALSO: a 5-year exemption to the PGA Tour. As an amateur, he would have limited status on tour, but would get full status upon turning pro at any point up to the end of 2017. Finally, at age 17, he would be the youngest ever US Open Champion (John McDermott was 19 when he won in 1911) as well as the youngest-ever PGA Tour event winner. Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Tiger is out of it. This course doesn't hold a 65 on sunday and Tiger won't shoot one. Also, there are too many players ahead to realistically expect all of them to drop 2-4 shots while he shoots 68. On the other end there are multiple players that can pull it off. McDowell, Furyk, Westwood, Els. the guys at +3 are perhaps too far off. I'm rooting for Lee, since he's the only one without a major of those four.

I think the course has a 65 in it. The problem is simply that if the course has a 65 in it, it also has 66s, 67s, 68s, and 69s in it, and one of the 200 people ahead of Tiger will shoot one of those scores. I give him less than a 5% chance - but more than a 1% chance. Either way it will be interesting to see how he plays with nothing to lose. He's far enough back that he can't expect people to crumble. But realistically speaking, 16, 17, and 18 killed his chances yesterday. He should have played them at -1 pretty easily and instead played them at +2. He hit the ball on the toe. That's why the club opened up. Johnny was a moron saying that he "added fade" during impact. He toed it. Plain and simple.

I'm glad you posted that, cuz that's exactly what I was thinking when they showed the slo-mo. When the face opens like that at impact, that the result of hitting it on the toe. He didn't 'add fade'. Dude's good, but cmon.

Why are birdies red and over par green? Red is bad, green is good.

Why is over par bad and under par good? If I'm better than expected, over par should be a good thing.

Just sayin'

Red has historically been used to say "under" or "negative." Red ink vs. black ink, for example.

True enough, except for those pesky electricians.  Remember to reverse those colors when using jumper cables to start your car, or the sparks will fly!

Fredric Jacobson will win at the graveyard of champions, it's obvious.

Woods gave his chances away at 16-18. Furyk made almost too much nice par putts yesterday, probably won't be able to keep that up. McDowell will have some wayward shots to the right under pressure. Westwood is Westwood, doesn't make the putts when he has to.

They are talking about how "pure" the greens are this week. I wondeer if that has to do with less steel spikes being worn (Finally!). Even Tiger is now promoting "alternative traction" but I bet Furyk is still wearing steel. When are they going to ban them?

Just sharing my thoughts....

What if Tiger played 1-6 at even par, and maybe squeeze a birdie on 7, 8 possibly, 15,16,17...and stayed away from bogeys, try to post an E in the clubhouse....there is always the possibility of a playoff....?

Just sayin....

cheers

Well, Tiger's not out of it. He's 5 back with 13 players in front of him. It's doable. If he does just what you posted, that's a 65 & he posts one under. I think that wins.

Perhaps we see someone doing a Johnny Miller and posting a 63? Would probably be awkward to listen to the broadcast.

Completely arbitrary IMO. You could make a convincing case for using the colors either way. They are not the best choice of colors, though. I would like to know what a leader board looks like to a person who is red-green color blind.

Let's see.  Woods shoots 65, the lowest round of the tournament (and 4 strokes better than his "in complete control of his game" 69 of Thursday).  And every one of the 13 players ahead of him bumbles along over par.

One under may very well win.  It just won't be Woods who shoots it.

It's certainly unlikely Woods shoots 65, for sure, but it's not impossible.

My bet is that's the number Tiger has in mind today - 65. He has to do it if he wants to win.

I think one under 279 is the winning score, and I've been trying to figure out who's going to do it. So here's my pick:

The 54-hole leader has never won at Olympic. The two guys at -1 are former Open winners - McDowell & Furyk. Both would be 'worthy' champs, but again, that doesn't seem to happen at Olympic.

So you got someone like Westwood, but until he shows me he can make a putt on a Sunday when it counts I can't pick him. Besides, it has to be someone more obscure. Someone who nobody had on their radar going into the tournament. Someone who can handle the tough par putts down the stretch.

Someone like Fredrik Jacobson.
