If you could play well enough to get on the pro tour but could never win a tourney, would you do that? Second place or less OK, but never win, year after year . Because you are not a ‘winner’, from what I read, you would always have an inferior locker location, would never gain the envy or respect of your fellow pros, at times even considered the locker room attendant, and maybe your abilities or ambition would be seriously questioned by your peers and the sports writers. Yet, on the money list you would see you name with millions added yearly. But never a winner. Is pro golf only about money? Prestige? Acceptance?

If I knew it before I got on the Tour probably not, but if it became the case once I was on, I guess I'd make the best of it.

This is a golf forum with a bunch of people who are sufficiently obsessed to sit around at their computers and talk about golf stuff.      Let's see, instead we can quit our annoying day jobs, play golf all week long, make a really good living, get all the free equipment and clothing we want, have some other cool sponsor perks, play great courses in top condition, and get coddled at every tournament we play.        What person here in their right mind would say no????

For sure. I'm sure it'd get to you after a while because everybody wants to win, but overall - lifestyle would not be hard to take. Way more good than bad in this deal.

Considering how unlikely it is for me to win a PGA Tour event without taking this deal, sure.

That doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to Ricky Fowler's life before he finally won. And even a tour pro who goes his whole career without winning has a life that must be in the upper 1% in just about every category you can think of.

Yes, where do I sign up?

Although I can see the point of the discussion because of our competitive nature we would want to win at least once.

Why would anyone want that?

This guy nailed it. I would do it in a heartbeat.

You mean be Briny Baird? Oh hell yes.

Exactly my first thought. Go Briny, richest golfer never to win. All the perks and he can still walk down the street without getting hounded for autographs.

No my heart just could not take it, not winning ever.

I win every day when I come into work, and listen to my boss yell at me. I love my day job, and I love sitting in a nice AC cooled concrete building with no windows.

My life is the best, why would I change it?

Ha ha. anyone ever see the original Bedazzled where the Devil keeps on screwing Dudley Moore with the fine print?

In this case, you get to be a Touring Pro, but it's the LPGA.

You're describing a majority of pros on tour. If I could make a living doing it (a few top tens a year would do it for me), then I would absolutely do it.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
