I have no idea what I shot my first round, I know the course I played, but I was probably about 10 years old, which was well over 40 years ago, so no way I remember the score.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Yes I do because it was only 2 months ago. I shot a 52 on a par 3.

2 months, 3 lessons, and a lot of practice later.... I scored 38 twice last night playing two par 3's back to back.

Progress.

I certainly do remember the first time I went out and kept my score (not counting a few drunken scrambles at the annual golf outing that finally got me into the game this year) since it was only 2 months ago.  Shot a 65 on a 9 hole par 36 course.  Kept it strict too -- no mulligans, counted penalty shots, including the one that didn't come near getting over the water hazard.  I've been practicing at another 9 hole course, keeping score sometimes.  I plan on getting back to that first course soon so I can see how many strokes I've taken off.

I don't even think I kept score my very first round...All I know is I apparently out drove one of the guys we were golfing with.  Apparently the couple we played with were worse then me and I was only 8!

I don't think I could even pin it down to a certain year. I started in the jr golf program and worked from the par 3 course up to the 9 hole jr program to eventually make the jr team for the local course. It was a long, long time ago. I think we actually played 9 holes more often than not. I don't remember playing 18 until I was in my mid teens.

Mine was almost exactly the same, but I was 26.

I don't remember too much of the first several rounds except a cornfield to the right that swallowed most of the first dozen balls I bought.  However, I do remember on one par-3 of around 155 yards, I hit my 5-iron perfectly in the sweet spot purely out of luck, it arched directly for the pin and my buddy who was teaching me how to play exclaimed "Holy shit, you might have an ace!"  It stopped 7" short of the hole, my first birdie and it took two more years and sinking a 50 foot putt before I had my second one.  To this day, 19 years later, I've never hit a better tee shot on a par-3, although I've had maybe 3 50+ yard pitches to less than 10".

The first time I played: 9-hole par-3 course, and I shot 69. I'd never been to a range at that point, but I pured about three shots, and I was hooked.

The first time I played a full-length course: 119.

I've posted this before but my first round I shot 103 or 104 something like that. It was the only time I have shot over 100 in my life. I got hooked immediately and have been playing a bunch over since. That was about 18 years ago. I broke 90 that same summer and never looked back.

If I remember right, it was around a 110. It was the best looking 110 you will ever see. I'm just kidding it was awful. I lost track of my score on some holes.

    • that is an excellent approach. I did that with my last set. I made a few 7 irons from different heads and shafts. Getting a feel for how they play on the course is the right idea. Let us know how it goes.
    • I’m glad the USGA booted some of the hecklers. It’s getting out of hand. I wish the networks wouldn’t mic the crowd to give those idiots a platform.
    • New member here, and I have decided to upgrade my clubs. I have been playing for a long time but these last 10 years I have had to put four kids through college. So I've played a few rounds a year and some years have not played at all. I am currently playing Titleist 716 AP2's with Rifle 6.5 steel shafts and Winn grips. I used to hit my 7 iron around 165 yds until just 5 years ago. I turned 62 this year and noticed I can barely get my 7 iron to 145 yds. I went for a fitting to try out some new player distance irons. I don't think I need game improvement irons because I'm pretty straight and rarely try to work a ball (if I'm working a ball, then I most definetely did something wrong to get there). I tried a bunch of irons (Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, Taylormade, Srixon, Ping, and Titleist) and I kept coming back to the Ping and Titleist. They just felt right and really looked good when lining up a shot. The Ping, by far, went the longest of all the irons. The Titleist was a close second in distance. Both felt buttery smooth through impact. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these irons. I was getting 160 yds with a nice smooth swing (81 mph swing speed). I know I'm asking a lot of my clubs but my last fitting was 27 years ago and I ended up with some Cleveland TA3's or TA2's forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 (swing speed 87 mph). I really love the feel of my AP2's and the place I'm going to purchase from is going to make a 7 iron in both Ping and Titleist for me to test on real grass. I'm pretty certain it's going to be either one. They're both identical in price for a set of 5-PW. I'm going to forego a 4 iron and get another 4 hybrid to go along with my 3 hybrid. Any and all replies are welcome.
    • Day 47, June 22.  After work today, I spent 20 minutes in my indoor practice room, hitting about as many balls.  Slow, as slow as I could, 6-iron swings, same priority piece as the past month.
