I think I could lower my handicap by about five if I had a blimp to track all my lost balls. And I don't know why Tiger was so mad about his putt on 2. He's lucky it didn't go off the green. Right now, if I had to bet, I'd bet on Rory. That par save was amazing.

Most of the greens here in Hawaii are seashore paspalum, since you can water it with brackish saltwater.  In my experience, they're consistently in good condition, but rarely in great condition.  By that I mean that on most days they are consistent, medium firm surfaces that roll well.  Paspalum creates a thick surface that doesn't accept ball marks well (probably one of the reasons that they're usually in good condition), and as a result I rarely see really fast and really smooth--both conditions you expect for a major.  Of the courses I've played here in Hawaii, only a handful of times have I seen the greens in both very fast and very smooth.  If it's not raining much, they can dry out a bit and get quicker, but then the surfaces get a little more brittle and subject to marking, but because the turf is really thick it's difficult to repair and smooth out the marks.

I guess that if you're preparing paspalum greens for a major, you'd verticut them several times over the course of six weeks or so to thin out the surface a bit, and give them plenty of water.  That should allow them to be cut pretty low and stay smooth.

some good putting going on. just turned it on and it looks like rory is having a good day today. he's been hot and cold day to day over the last few weeks, but he's got all the talent in the world.

also nice to see that it's not hurricane conditions today.

(and as i was writing this tiger yanked that putt)

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be fine.  It's a stoppage of play to search for a ball, perfectly fine.

Now I know what to do when faced with Ian Poulter's ball way above the feet shot. Is Faldo right, 9 times your body weight on the lead knee?

What's the over/under on gloves for Tiger? Vijay may need to sign one too. Scott makes a bomb.

He might, but frankly, I think he's just about shot himself out of it.

Unless Tiger muster a great back nine, it'll be a tough job. Coming from behind tomorrow can go the wrong way, like we've seen before. Nice to see Rory has started making birdies again. The top 10 is packed with players that can close tournaments.

Yeah, he needs a stoppage to regroup, and higher winds, which might keep Rory from shooting a 62.

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
