I know that most of you are gonna be biased for Scotty but just wanted to know if there was a difference for $50 that i would save potentially getting a blacks series putter

Xavier, I've told you a few times: it's not about the brand name. The putter you have is fine - for you, for now.

You need to figure out what kind of stroke you have, what kind of putter looks GOOD to you (regardless of brand name), what length works, what feel you like, and a few other things before you can really look to replace your putter. If you get some help with your putting stroke, the wristy motion you have now will change, and that alone might change what kind of putter best suits you. Having seen you play, you also need to dedicate time and perhaps instruction towards your golf swing. Hold off on the putter purchase until you can break 100 at a non-executive type course.

I was fitted for a putter a while back and the black series #2 putter was recommended as the best for me. I love it. I had a tendency to leave the ball short with my previous putter and now I'm doing much better.

yeah listen to iacas, alot of people make the mistake of spending money on equipment apposed to improving their game. Trust me, because I know people who are fairly poor golfers who bought scotty camerons, or other fancy putters, and you know what they still don't shoot very good scores.

I have the Scotty Newport Studio 2 and absolutely love it. I've been playing golf for about 10 months now, and started out using the Odyssey 3 ball. I used to hate putting, but after trying a friend's Scotty, I realized that I hated my old putter. I'm still not what I'd call a great putter, but last week I didn't three putt once, in three rounds. For me, that's great. :)

I looked at the Black, Newport 2 and the new Ping Rosewood blades. I found the Black to have to much "hit" in it, too hard when it struck the ball. It came down to the Ping and the Newport and for me the Ping was a bit too heavy which for me was taking some of the feel away from my putts. I used to play a 2ball blade, a great putter but for me it was a bit too mindless. You would putt the ball but wouldn't know the outcome if you didn't look at where the ball ended up. The 3 blades I was looking at all gave me enough feed back to tell me how I hit the ball and for me the Newport gave me the most feedback. It all comes down to what you want, $50 is a small price to pay if it lets you sink even 1 more putt a round.

I tried (again) the Black Series #2 earlier today and I tell you what, it does feel really good. A local shop has a used one in good shape for $170... almost bought it right there. The Newport 2 is a great feeling putter as well but to be honest I personally couldn't say it felt any better than the Black Series (I love the Circa 62 putters...).

If you're shopping in this price range for a putter ($250-$300) I wouldn't let $50 make the difference.

Hey- it's whatever works for you. I have an arc stroke, yet I putt best with face balanced mallets- go figure! Try a bunch of putters, whatever one gives you the best feel, distance control and allows you to roll the ball end over end is the right putter. Heck, for a while I shelved my Scotty's for a $15 bargain barrel clone. Why? I made more putts with it!

Man just try everything not just the expensive stuff, you might find something you like in the lower price range.

Try some putters from Ping, Yes, Taylormade and some of Odyssey's other putters. Just because Scotty Camerons are the most expensive doesn't mean they will necessarily work for you. I tried a couple of Scotty Camerons and, while I liked them, I didn't see why they were worth the extra £100 over the Odyssey White Steel putter I ended up choosing.

When I went to buy a new putter, I tried dozens without regard to price or brand. I narrowed it to the ones I was hitting well and made me feel like I could sink anything. Then lots of back to back eliminating. I got down to a Guerin Rife 2-bar and a STX Envision. Bought the Envision for it's softer feel. Bonus was the fact it was less than half of what the SC might have cost (and I was replacing an older SC-designed Titlest putter), but I'd have spent whatever to get the putter that felt right. Don't be a slave to fashion in your bag, but what you can score well with.

Great advise by

iacas . I personally bounced around for a while trying different putters (Cleveland, SRT 3 Ball, etc..) and about 3 months ago I decided it is not the arrow, it is the indian . So with that I made a committment to buy a really good putter (defined as well made with good reputation) and focus on learning and practicing good mechanics, rountine and patience to become the best putter I could be. See my signature for what I bought and I love it PS However, I will never part with my Beryllium Ping B60 even though I don't use it any more (well maybe for the right price $$ $$).

I was actually in the store yesterday trying out the exact same putters (Black series and Newport 2.5)...Right now I'm using a White Hot, and I actually found that the Black Series hit truer than the Newport, but the Newport seemed heavier and gave me a better stroke. Still undecided though.

I agree and that's why I game Scottys. I never bought a single one with the idea that it would improve my putting, but with the idea that owning such a beautiful work of art would make me want to improve my putting.
