Fair enough, I assumed and hoped you'd chime in and correct mine as you saw fit. Though, since we last played I feel like I've gotten better at both of those keys, and my scores have reflected it.

It may have… and you don't have enough scores to give a true handicap.

I just remember pointing out to you how much different even your footwork was on the golf course versus in practice.

Absolutely. Practice is a well thought out effort. When I think too much on the course, terrible things happen. So it won't fully translate until my home practice swings become muscle memory (in for a long wait lol)

Practice rounds might help.

Yeah, I get those in occasionally. I'll just go to the course and play 3-4 balls sometimes.

Hmm.. I really can't tell what part of those I'm doing wrong. I guess I'm not qualified to grade these lol

I think the picture is pointing out that your impact isn't as inline as it should be...that your hands/arms should be further forward matching the red line at impact. But I'm sure Erik will emphasize.

And weight isn't forward properly.

Mini flip. Poor weight forward. Not 1s.

With the new info given, I'll grade myself on where I think both my practice and course swings rank.

Course:

Key 1: .1

Key 2: .1

Key 3: .6

Key 4: 0

Key 5: .2

So a total of 1

Practice:

Key 1: .75

Key 2: .75

Key 3: .75

Key 4: 0

Key 5: .2

None mastered, but 3 are pretty close to my untrained eye.

I assure you (as will Erik) that my impact position does not look like this on the course. :-D

So a total of 2.45

Which would mean when I can get my practice swing to translate to the course, I'll be a single digit handicap! Right? RIGHT?!

I must have an inflated perception of my abilities   :-)

PS - Not to be a fly in the ointment, but there doesn't seem to be much emphasis on short game proficiency in this rating ... the hcp graph is weighted heavily on ball striking, without much input as to pitching, recovery shots, chipping and putting.     I know it's just an estimate, and again, not criticizing, but seems to have a pretty big hole in it ...

Chances are, people that have put enough time, effort, and practice into their ball-striking to achieve perfecting 1 or more of the keys, will also have at least a proficient enough short game to not hold them back. I've never seen a good ball-striker with a terrible short game.

At least IMO.

Two things. One of them is here:

Chances are, people that have put enough time, effort, and practice into their ball-striking to achieve perfecting 1 or more of the keys, will also have at least a proficient enough short game to not hold them back. I've never seen a good ball-striker with a terrible short game.

The second is that the short game isn't all that important. Most people who strike the ball about the same are about the same handicap, and most people with a similar short game strike the ball about the same.

Point 2.5: 5SK is a full swing concept. These are just the averages.

I think my score is a 2.95.  I definitely have a steady head.  While I get a good amount of my weight forward I don't think I have it FULLY down.  I typically always get to a position where I get inline impact.  I put .1 in key #4 and key #5 because I always have a good idea of where the ball is going to start and also how it's going to curve.  I uploaded two new videos in my my swing thread and can definitely tell I'm making improvements!

My handicap is at 9.8 at the moment.

makes sense - never looked at it that way.   Most people of similar hcp's will logically have similar long & short games - stands to reason...

Erik, if you could give us a perspective...  He rated him self as a 1.. what would you rate his steady head instead?

Damned if I know.  Maybe @iacas or @mvmac can give some insight based on the somewhat limited video on my swing thread and having watched me hit a few balls earlier this year.

My guess:

Key 1:     .5

Key 2:     .5

Key 3:     .5

Key 4:     .2

Key 5:     .5

Given my handicap, I may be off a little, or more likely, over the years I've just gotten pretty good at compensating for poor mechanics.

About 1/4.

It's not just the amount of motion but how, and remember Key #1 is about the torso turning, too. His head goes down and forward in the backswing.
