Jason Whitlock's article about Tiger Woods is bold and controversial. Read and discuss here. I will weigh in later.

Interesting and incendiary.

He has some good points, but I'm not sure he's cursed, or that karma has caught up to him. I think the field has caught up to him. I think other golfers have realized that he's not unbeatable.

I would hardly say that Woods shot himself out of the tournament on Saturday. He left a couple of strokes on the course, but who didn't. He and Phil shot the same score on Saturday. The simple fact of the matter is that Tiger has always been the best defensive golfer in the world (during his career at least), but he's never been a good offensive player on Sunday. Everyone's aware of the fact that he's never come from behind to win a major on Sunday.

Whitlock's article is full of hyperbole and entertaining to read, so it serves it's purpose. But I don't buy into him being curses. He may or may not catch Jack, but he won't retire with 14 majors.

So....cuz he was banging Perkins waitresses he can't make putts on a Sunday of a Major?

Interesting take...to put it nicely. Stupid take....to put it bluntly.

I think he copied one of my posts.... as to karma.

Yes, Tiger apparently doesn't treat people well. He has lived in a bubble all his life. He has no idea....

Disagree with the author as to the problems with Tiger's game ...

I think it was the 2009 PGA, Shankgiving, Injuries, Divorce, New Swing... Now, it's his head ... this guy is the biggest whiner since my last ex-wife...

Tiger needs to practice those Hindu-Budhist virtues he extolls ... practice what he preaches, instead of blaming every over or under-hosed green...

I thought the "Curse of the Bimbino" is just classic. I am not endorsing the article, just making a comment about the name of the alleged curse. I also can appreciate the Prince reference.

I skimmed it ... looks like a really lame story - normally I like Jason Whitlock - though.  And it doesn't make any sense anyway.  The timeline doesn't work at all if you're going to pull the 'karma' card.  It would make sense if:

1.  Tiger Woods was a great family man.

2.  Simultaneously, Tiger Woods won lots of majors.

3.  Then, Tiger Woods decided to start messing around.

4.  Now Tiger Woods sucks at golf.

However, I believe the timeline is something more like:

1.  Tiger Woods won a lot of majors while SIMULTANEOUSLY messing around with waitresses and pornstars.

2.  He gets caught and then decides to start being a good family man.

3.  Now he sucks at golf.

One could write an article for Fox claiming that if Tiger wants to win more majors he needs to start screwing around again.

Agree ...

He seems very uptight on the weekends.

"Lindsey!"

Wonder if she can fit into various outfits so Tiger does not feel so monogamous...

I think you have an interesting point. Not necessarily the screwing around part, but the "nice family man" attitude. He was really cutthroat before all the sh*t hit the fan. Now it seems like he's trying to say the right things and act like a nice guys. I think that's messing with his head. After his Sunday round he said "I'm very please with the way I'm playing, there's no doubt. I'm right there and I hit a ton of good shots this week, and the only thing that I would look back on this week is I just never got the speed after the first day, because it got progressively slower." Tiger from 2000 would never have said that. He would have said something along the lines of: "I hit some good shots, but it wasn't good enough. I'm going to keep working and keep improving. I came to win and wasn't able to do it."

It was amazing to see how Mickelson reacted after closing out the Open on Sunday. Signing autographs, bumping fists with the fans and hugging his entire family who were waiting for him. Tiger would have not looked at anybody and just marched off to the scorers' tent. That's why you have Phil fans and Tiger haters. Like Arnold Palmer, Phil looks you in the eye, similes, and interacts with the crowd. I think Tiger still feels ashamed that everyone remembers his episodes with the bimbos while trying to cultivate the image of a family man. Not a happy camper.

I have to disagree with the trying to act like a nice guy. He may be answering a few more questions but a nice guy would have congratulated Phil for the historic Open performance and would have thrown the fans a bone at his return to the Master's. He did neither, which is really what we expected, but he could have turned some more fans around (the ones that care about niceties) with some positive comments.

[QUOTE name="geauxforbroke" url="/t/68727/tiger-woods-bitten-by-the-curse-of-the-bimbino#post_873103"] I think you have an interesting point. I think you're right. Maybe instead of saying he's trying to be a nice guy, I should say he's trying not to be such as *******.

Why can't people understand that not everyone is built the same.

  • Phil is very comfortable showing public displays of affection (PDA) towards his family and friends, Tiger apparently isn't, but that doesn't make him a bad guy.  He just has a different personality.
  • We know for a fact Tiger cheated on his wife, we have no idea if Phil ever cheated.  Ultimately unless you're a family member why do you care?
  • Everything Tiger does is placed under a microscope and blown out of proportion usually in a negative sense.  Phil usually gets the benefit of the doubt (unless he criticizes CA tax hikes).

I like both of these guys, but for different reasons.  I like that Phil appears to be the super nice guy that loves his family, is a fellow lefty and always has a smile on his face.  I like that Tiger is a super intense competitor that wants to win at all costs even if it means people don't like him.

As for the article, Whitlock joins Miceli, Chamblee and a bunch of others that bash Tiger to gain popularity or notoriety, which means they are bottom dwellers in their industry and desperate for attention.

Like just about everything else Jason Whitlock writes, it's opinionated uninformed tripe that makes him sounds like a complete idiot. But I'm sure he's used to that now...

He thinks he's clever and intelligent, when in all reality, he comes off as neither. He writes garbage to get a rise out of people, he's a blatant racist, and just a general scumbag writer. I've never read an article from him that didn't make me wanna punch him square in his fat ass face.

If you couldn't tell, I'm not his biggest fan...

So basically, because Tiger cheated on his wife, karmic forces are extracting their pound of flesh from him in the form of...not winning majors?

Cuz he is winning tournaments. He is #1 in the world again. He's still filthy rich with a trophy girlfriend & two apparently good kids. He jets around from tournament to tournament on his Gulfstream.

But....karma is silent on that but not letting him win majors anymore.

Interesting. I didn't think it was that selective. You would think if "karma" was indeed in control here, he would be beating balls at the back of some range in the middle of nowhere trying to get his tour card back & pleading for sponsor's exemptions while his houses were being foreclosed upon.

Ergo, the conclusion I reach is twofold: Karma ain't that picky, and Tiger isn't winning majors because he simply isn't winning majors. It's not karma, it's golf. Fickle damn game.
