Scored an 82 last sunday and my EGA handicap went .6 down to 10.6. And made 4 threeputts that round. Should have been my first sub 80 score ever.

@MacDutch , you need to drop that another 4 points or so before October!

Slight bump up to a 19.4, partially due to over superintendents revenge tourney this weekend (2 four putts on the 1st 3 holes)

Should stay the same through the next revision. However I expect a rise when I change putters after our match play championship.

I only have 7 rounds posted in 2014 so I'm not finished climbing yet........

April 15 Revision:  2.6 to 2.8

I'm holding firm on my goal for the year.......my peak last year was at 5.4 before dropping back down to nearly where I started the year.   My 2014 goal is to do the same, but peak anywhere below 5.4.... LOL.....

Okay back at 5.0, I need to get busy if I'm going to at the very least get halfway to my goal this year.

Only dropped another 10th.  I like what I'm seeing, but still struggling a bit to get the ball in the hole.  Only 2 of my next 8 scores to fall off are in my low 10 though, so I should continue to see some movement.  Busy next couple of weeks (and Mother's Day coming up) so I may only get to play a few times before the 15th though.

Current index = 6.5

Low 10 scoring average = 78.2

Anti-index = 9.2

High 10 scoring average = 82.0

20 round scoring average = 80.1

Looks like I've lost some consistency.  4 strokes on the scoring average is a pretty big delta between my low 10 and high 10.  I need more birdies.  Gotta start making some birdie putts.  Seems like I'm hitting a lot of approaches close, but missing everything outside of 5 feet these days.

It's good to have simple goals.....

With all the wind here I only play 4x since we started the season 04/15. I moved up a 10th, last two differentials were 10.3C and 13.1C, the 10.3 moved a better, older differential out. My 10 best go all the way back to 08/13 and I had a rough patch last fall before the season ended. Need to get some scores posted.

Headed in the wrong direction. 8.4 to 9.2 to 9.4 today.

I've actually been hitting some great shots but the there is zero consistency. I'll make a birdie and not even finish the next hole.

I am feeling good about my driving and putting. It's the stuff in the middle that is a mess.

Down from a 13.4 to a 12.5. I might, might bust into single digits this year. I've got a bunch of rounds in the low teens, but only 2 in the single digit range. One being a 9.9. If I can turn my doubles into bogeys and my triples into doubles consistently, I should be able to break into single digits. Easier said than done, of course.

Soared to 21.   That's 8 point jump from a year ago.  My latest excuse - lower neck, upper back injury/pain that's been plaguing me for the last 4 months.  The good news is, the index can only go lower from here (I hope).

My next revision will be the "all important" revision because I'll finally have 20 posted rounds.   I'll finally know where my 2014 game stands!!   Some really low scores are dropping off, so this next revision may be a big jump.  A couple scores with a 0.diff will be dropping.......  Right now I am trending a 3.5, but the computer doesn't account for soon to drop low scores.

We seem to have a lot of posters who don't maintain a real handicap.  I'm curious as to why.....

They guys I play with, we go play, have fun, and go home. Who needs a handicap if that's all you do?

Yes, we all want to get better, and we each work on improving, but it's easy to tell what's what without having a handicap.

You don't compete amongst yourselves? Not even for bragging rights? How do you know if you're improving? Were your last 20 rounds better than the 20 before that? We're they all played on the same course or the exact same mix of courses? You're serious enough about the game to spend a lot of time here over the last 5 years. Why not establish a handicap?

My handicap is GHIN and current, but I prefer to measure myself against other golfers by height.

How do you know if you're improving? Were your last 20 rounds better than the 20 before that? We're they all played on the same course or the exact same mix of courses?

You're serious enough about the game to spend a lot of time here over the last 5 years. Why not establish a handicap?

Good questions.

1. Nope, and nope. We're all plus or minus 60, so I guess our testosterone levels are too low for all that.

2. I know if I'm improving by looking at my scores (high 70s, low 80s), seeing what shots I'm hitting better, what holes that once gave me trouble are now quite manageable, what shots I can play better than before, etc. I also write down every shot when I get home to see what I'm doing well and what I need work on. I play on a rotation of five different courses. They each require a unique approach to scoring and shotmaking, so I had to develop a somewhat rounded game. Every now and then we go someplace different.

3. The handicap is a USGA-sponsored device for leveling out competition. Since I don't compete anywhere, there's no need for me to have one. Really. If golf is recreation and enjoyment, you don't need a handicap. The USGA wants everyone to believe that you aren't a "real golfer" if you don't have one. That's just one of several things they're out of touch on, but that's a different thread.

If you and I were to play a round together, I would enjoy your company, congratulate you on your good shots, and my not having a handicap wouldn't diminish the experience at all.

There  are distinct differences between real golf and so called recreational play.  The latter barely resembles real golf.   I'm familiar these guys.....they take mulligans, fluff their lies, take gimmies, etc, etc, etc........

When they say they shot "XX"....you can add a dozen strokes to that for a more realistic number.  There is nothing wrong with that.....just please don't insult the game by saying I shot "XX" when you have no clue what you really scored.

Was lowered down to a 1.7 this morning, thanks to two recent rounds with negative differentials (-0.4 and -2.4). ... Been playing really good golf the past two weeks.
