Drinking Water on Courses

One thing that irritated me was the lack of water on this course. I mean, drinking water!!! I swear it cost me a couple shots on the front nine. Finally got to a cooler on, I think it was #5 and it was empty! 95 degrees... Fortunately there was some a hole or two later and I filled up a water bottle I had in my bag but I wasn't feeling all that well from holes 3-6 (yeah, I forgot to bring something but the starter told me not to worry because there was plenty of water out there...!)

Remember, now, that a lot of public courses have done away with offering drinking water. A few people have died recently or gotten quite sick after drinking contaminated water on some courses. It's not a good situation.

They have water at my course on holes 1,4,6,8,12 and 16. The water tastes soo good and it is never empty, hopefully it doesnt come from the pond on the 9th hole

Where do the courses with the contaminated water get their water??

The water at my course has all been purified and filtered through their own systems, at least according to the utility guy who fills the coolers. It's pretty good - and a welcome relief if you run out of your own water after six holes. There's one on almost every tee box.

The course I normally play has a relatively secure water cooler every 4 holes or so. It is SO HOT down here (96 F today) that my 20oz bottle is empty long before I reach the next cooler. Nothing is going to stop me from filling up and chugging down in this weather.

The water at my course tastes really good. But they have coolers at the weirdest places like 2 holes away from the turn, and 2 away from the 18th.

One of the courses I play did away with their coolers. I hate it. I have kidney stones and have to drink a lot of water, so sometimes I have to load my bag up with 4 or 5 bottles, depending on how hot it is and such.

It's not that they have bad water when it's put in the cooler, it's from people sticking their dirty towel on the coolers tap to wet the towels down .
All the chemicals used on golf courses are transfered on the towel from wiping the balls and clubs off then rewetting the towel at the coolers.
Getting sick from drinking the water and bringing a law suit will get the courses attention.
I've emptied a cooler infront of a group after one of them just held his towel on the cooler to wet it down and the other three said wait they wanted to get a drink, I said thank your buddy for putting his towel on the tap and I could'nt let them drink the water until the cooler was put in the dish washer and refilled.

There's nothing worse than counting on the coolers at #5 and finding them empty. Very frustrating. One course I play has actual water fountains here & there. They're not as cold, but at least they're never empty.

We've got coolers every three holes. They are locked down, so no dipping of the towels occurs...

all the courses I've played in MD in PA have a lock down box with 2 coolers in each box (so nobody can get inside accept the person with the key) and they are normally every 3 holes or so away....the course I play mostly now has 2 Coke Machines and a Pot-A-Johnny or Spot-A-Johnny (whatever people call those stinky things) @ 6 & 12...

I take out two 16 oz cups of water (with lemon) when I tee off. I then refill them at the turn. We have coolers every three holes; I don't use them.

All of the courses I play here in CO have plenty of water too. And in locked stands too, so nobody can get into them. My home course has water on the tee boxes for holes 3, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16, and water is obviously available in the clubhouse. The ranger's cart also has a 5 gallon cooler on it with ice water. You can flag him down anytime to fill a water bottle.

The Men's Club on my course donated towel buckets (set in a nice wood frame) with some of our extra funds. They are located at each of the water stations so that players use them instead of running the drinking water over their towels and wasting it and leaving them empty. It's a lot easier to just dip your towel in bucket made for the task.

Yeah, I think locking them is the standard way to go. The course in Arizona where the little girl died had locked ones too, I think, which would make it the fault of the maintenance crew for not properly cleaning out the container.

All the courses around here that I've played have at least a few coolers here and there. They are always locked in a box though. Usually they are good and cold too, so I think the maintenance guys do a good job of maintaining them.
