I personally thought the "why we are young" campaign was a little cute but eventually would be proven to be ineffective.

Lets keep his thread to an anti bitch session, instead offer an  easy to explain,  limited to 30 words ways of speeding up the game.

1) 24 inch rule, ( auto gimme) is inside of 24 inches, pick it up and do not putt or mark. 1 stroke added

2) Instruct superintendents  to provide easy tee boxes & pin placements on known busy days - middle of the green.

3) Get rid of the honor system on the tee box, first one there, first tees off.

Our group has a double bogey rule for informal play. Once you hit double bogey you pick up. Obviously if you are playing for handicap you can't do this (except for ESC), but it works for us. First to the tee is good too, as is ready golf.

1) Ready golf and the first to the tee thing

2) An interesting one I heard from Micheal Breed - after you hit your shot, get in the cart and go instead of fiddling with your clubs at the bag.  Then when you stop next to hit another shot - re-bag your club when you get a new one

3) Stop reading greens for so long and from every angle - this seems to take forever.  It isn't the Masters

4) You don't have to mark your ball on the green every time and it is OK for more than one ball to be on the ground at a time as long as it isn't in anyone's way

6) Less rough that is slightly taller than the golf ball

7) Less bunkers

8) Less playing driver from the blues if you probably aren't going to break 100

9) Consider walking if it is cart path only (this wouldn't apply to everyone_)

10) let carts go a little closer to the greens

1) Every time you hit the green just pick up and add 2 strokes because we always 2 putt anyways.

2) Skip the tedious driving from the teebox thing and hit 2nd shot from the 150 on par 4's

3) Take a par on all par 3's because they get backed up

4) If you feel like playing and know you'll do good just record a personal best and tell everyone you played but weren't at the course because it takes too long

I normally only play with fast players and people at our course normally keep it moving so I really haven't thought about this much.  One point I will make is that you should always grab breakfast or whatever and have your foursome come up with and agree on these restrictions as a group and as a means to enjoy yourselves as much as you can, trying to bring one up when your buddy's in the process of making a sure 8 will only create bad vibes.

Haha! I wanted to post something along the lines of this. If people want to make up rules that help them play faster, more power to them. Personally, I do not do this and I still am a fast golfer. It is not hard to play efficient without skipping shots. To each their own though, as long as you play quickly in front of me :-D

I like the "first to the tee and ready to play" A LOT. I dislike like pick up the gimmie putts "within two feet." Those usually take just a second to putt and in my opinion, increase confidence. Everyone wants to see the ball drop in the cup. Just walk up and knock it in.

1. if you are not that good tee it forward and that goes for the guy who hits it 290 yards but stii cant break a 100

2. let us ( superintendents) slow down the green speeds a bit. 3 putting greens slows up play. also slower greens reduce the so called hard pin placement.

I can tell you that looking for a ball in the rough takes a lot of time.

I know this because my father in law will not drop a ball, he will drive around until it is found. Case in point 6 hour round Sunday, maybe cutting the rough a little shorter will help?

It's not just the any 10 random things in this thread. that contribute but dozens if not hundreds of little things that add up to a reasonable finish time. And there has to be a will to want to do these things. Knowledge of these just won't do or tl;dr, MOVE!!!

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I posted similar idea on another thread except mine was that golfers pay by the hour.  Your option may be easier to implement.

be courteous!

Look behind you, if there is a group that is waiting for you on every hole, let them through.

If you cant find your ball after a minute and are so attached to it that you cant go without, then call them through and continue to look

If you have the honour, but are the longest hitter in your group let a shorter hitter go first if the group ahead are in your range.

Yep. I can see a need for fight referees on the course. We had a problem in the clubhouse just the other day when one idiot (in a foursome) wanted his group to start on the 5th hole because there were 4 twosomes (that were all very fast players) on the first four holes. SMH.
