The PGA Tour is back on U.S. soil, pretty good field this week

http://www.pgatour.com/news/2013/11/06/mcgladrey-classic-drawing-elite-players.html

Quote:

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- The first snow of the year fell across the Midwest a couple weeks ago. The NFL and college football are deep into their seasons.

But on Wednesday at Sea Island Golf Club, the sun sparkled off St. Simons Sound behind a driving range that was packed with players from end to end -- so much so that Webb Simpson had to find a spot next to a pro-am participant.

"It's beautiful," the former U.S. Open champion said as he prepared for The McGladrey Classic. "I love playing golf tournaments that are near the beach.

"The golf course is awesome. It presents challenges and you have to think. There's a lot of reasons to come here."

Given a busy schedule with tournaments around the world, choosing where to play isn’t always easy. But tournament host Davis Love III also makes it difficult to say no to playing here.

Earlier in the week, he threw a huge pro-am party at his house. He’s also hosting a handful of players there for the week and the barn out back will even play host to a petting zoo.

"I hear there's a pig, so that's going to be pretty exciting," said Love, whose tournament is now in its fourth year. "There was a lot of work going on, a lot of sleepless nights from my team and my family."

There was also an increase in FedExCup points, from 300 to a full 500, and a significant increase in prize money. This year’s purse is $5.5 million, up from $4 million a year ago.

The impact on the community isn’t lost, either.

Love’s "Birdies for Love" program has raised more than $450,000 in the community and a Wiffle Ball game earlier in the week attracted a number of players, again all for a good cause.

"There's so much going on with our event that it just grows and grows every year," Love said. "Pretty much everything we've wanted to do (McGladrey) supported and helped us do it."

I'm pulling for Davis love III.  he was my favorite pro when I first started golfing, and it looks like he's playing pretty well. Would like to see Jim F. up there as well, gotta root for the older guys.. :-D

Jim F? Furyk? I didn't see his name on the list. I'm going to take an outsider and root for Daniel Summerhays, he had a couple great tourney's last year but couldn't close on any on the final day. Maybe this is his year.

I like Webb too.

Well shoot, I just assumed he'd be playing. I didn't check the list...

That's just the guy's name; it's a huge stretch to find any unfortunate context that can be read into that headline. If the copy editors are trying to sneak something in on us, they can do much better...

    • Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.
    • OK - I think we should narrow down a weekend, and start there.  We're going to try to do this in June. I've created a Doodle poll where everyone can vote for the options that work for them.  Please include your username so I can track/post results. Doodle Doodle is the simplest way to schedule meetings with clients, colleagues, or friends. Find the best time for one-to-ones and team meetings with our user-friendly calendar tool. Get started today! (I only put in the Saturday dates, but assume the outing would include Friday - Sunday). Once we select a date that works for the most people, I'll start to line up courses and schedule and go from there.
    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
    • Would You Rather #68: Would you rather make a hole-in-one on a perfectly struck shot, during a round where you otherwise played pretty poorly.  or  Would you rather play well all day and beat your personal best by let's say 3 strokes, but with no eagles.    I'd take option 2.   Although option 1 is always exciting, and rewarding. playing well all day is very exciting because I can also do the opposite.
