Is it just me or does anyone else cringe when they are watching a tournament on tv and someone screams "get in the hole!!!" after a shot? I'd be prone to backhand someone if they were standing next to me in the gallery and screamed like that.

It was clever the first time I heard it, OK the second time, and annoying ever since. But that doesn't come close to how stupid LPGA players sound when they bark orders to their ball while it's in the air. The champion is Christie Kerr shouting, "Sit! Sit! Sit" to her ball. If she wants it to sit, then she should hit it so it does sit. Then there's "Bite! Bite!" or "Cut! Cut!" It's all pretty demented. Maybe they play different balls than I do, because mine never listens to a thing I say.

Cheers to that! I can be heard yelling a lot of stuff after a shot, but none of it is directed towards the ball! The whole "get in the hole" thing is funny sometimes if you're playing with friends, especially if it's a terrible shot, but as a spectator I would be humiliated to yell that just based on how I feel about, let alone most folks on here!

I play with a guy who always yells "sit sit" even when its clear the damn ball was skulled way over the entire damn green, even when the ball is rolling out already! Man its especially bad when Im already mad about poor play and I hear that after a botched shot.

I don't mind it when it's warranted and the shot has a remote chance of going in. I don't really mind it when it's used in a ribbing humerous fashion like shanking one into the trees, drive for minus yards due to a riccochet etc. But like as with anything used in a joking manner the more it's used over and over the less funny it becomes until given a rest for a long long time.

The yelling of it on TV at every par 4/5 has just gotten sad. Bunch of guys that can't figure out when a joke has run it's course.

I'll occasionally say something to the ball, but usually only if it's a shot that looks like it could be good if it either rolls out or stops. In the former case, it's usually just "come on, roll" and the latter "come on, sit down." Obviously I know I don't have any influence on the ball, but it makes me feel better. I don't see why it should bother any one else.

LOL, Maybe we have played with the same chap, but he's a really nice guy, so I appreciated the "bite, bite," call and sentiment, even though I knew I'd skulled it so gruesomely, it didn't have a snowflake's chance in hell of doing any kind of sitting or biting whatsoever.

I've never yelled at a PGA tour event. The only times I've actually said something was at the local Memorial tournament. Tiger woods was walking down the fairway about 10yrds away from me, and I said " Go Get Em Tiger." He looked over tipped his hat and that was the end of it.

Another time was Justin Rose pounded a drive. No one really was around him that day, so I said to him, "Good Drive Justin." He looked over gave the golfers wave, and went on his way.

I don't really pay attention to the guys screaming after shots... But the times it does get annoying is when they are teeing off or laying up and you hear someone scream, "get in the hole." Like really?

It's so annoying. I don't mind cheers or anything like that, but for some reason yelling at the ball to get in the hole is extremely grating. I would much rather hear someone yell out "good ball."

Yeah I dont get it. He has been playing for years longer than I have so he should know when a ball wont have any chance to "sit" or "bite".

I do not have a problem with the fans (or 'patrons' at Augusta) cheering great shots on the tee or on the green, but yelling "Get in the hole!" on the tee of all holes is just ridiculous. If a player hit a great shot on par 3 with a chance to go in it's fine, but otherwise no. I find the "You da man!" just as annoying. Again, if they want to yell it after a player hits a great shot, fine; but not on the tee just as the ball is leaving the clubface.

You've summed up my exact thoughts on this subject.... thanks

It's stupid. Now, I don't mind it as long as it applies, ie the player hits a put that seems to be tracking or a chip that is on line, etc. But yelling this when a player hits a tee shot is just dumb.

I find it doesn't really matter.

I do find it funny how it pisses so many people off though.

In the scheme of things, who cares? There are too many tight upper lips in golf anyway.

Someone is having fun, and it has NO EFFECT on the way the pros play, so, again, who cares

Anyone who does it should be immediately removed from the course.

I totally agree! I'm working with my 12 year old daughter, and etiquette is the first thing I'm driving in to her head. She's a typical kid, wanting to piddle around in the fairway or on the green when someone is waiting on the tee for a chance to make their lifetime best drive. I'm constantly on her to use total respect for the others on the course. I hope it doesn't discourage her, but you have to teach them when they're getting started.

I hear someone yelling across the course like some drunk redneck at a football game is a bit frustrating.

I hate it,it makes me cringe when I hear it on the TV,as far as I'm aware it's only on the US Tour it happens,I have never heard it at a European event.
If I was standing beside someone who shouted it they would get a kick in the gonads for themselves.

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him
