Left Hand Low Putting

I understand about the continental grip and using the knuckles.  I can hit tennis balls either right handed or left handed, and on both sides, I feel smoother on the backhand side.  I've been told that this is because a pulling motion is smoother than a pushing motion.  The analogy with front wheel drive and rear wheel drive was used in that presentation.

Tried it multiple times over the past years with no success whatsoever.  I just could never get my hands on the putter in a comfortable position...especially the right hand when trying left hand low.  I tried all sorts of different hand positions.  Tried the super big grip, the more midsize grip and ended up back with a regular grip size.  What I did change that made a world of difference to me...and yep, it looks about as stupid as it is going to sound...I grip the putter with my left hand then I overlap my entire right hand over my left hand.  It has made a world of difference in my putting.

I have tried that grip as well but with a large grip. Very steady bringing the putter back. Doesn't help reading greens though. :-)

Bringing this thread back. I've been struggling with my putting lately and decided to try left hand low today at the range and boy did I like it. Distance control was much better and I didn't have nearly as much issue with missing left or right. I took my hands out of the picture a lot more as well. I really liked how the ball was rolling off the putter as well. My only issue was I occasionally grounded the club just before impact which cause putts to come up short but I'm excited to practice this more!

I switched this year. I also regripped my putter with a Superstroke 3.0. between the two my putting has improved significantly.

Putting mistakes are often down to shoulder alignment. I had putted same way for years hands opposite each other but only one finger overlap on left hand. This brought my right shoulder forward and regularly pulled putts. Out of desperation and to just change things went left hand low. It squared up my shoulders and immediately cured my short putt problems. However I lacked feel for distance. Changed my grip to a superstroke mid slim and went back to right hand low but double overlap with my fingers and turned my right hand clockwise just a quarter turn on the grip. This solved the alignment issue. Putting is now rapidly improved. Putting needs experimenting with. It's the area where you can try different things.

I am pretty new to golf. Really only been golfing for a month. When I went to the putting green for the first time my immediate thoughts were, "wow, putting is going to be a huge problem." The second time I went to the putting green I tried LHL and felt better instantly. Like others in this thread I'm someone who has always felt better playing hockey left handed and hitting a backhand in tennis despite being right hand dominant. I don't know anything about anything, but I would bet that has a lot to do with how comfortable a person feels. It made the putter feel much smoother. Putting regular it seemed impossible not to break my wrists.

However, after reading this I do agree with the point that was made that lag putts seem more difficult. I have had a very hard time with putts of significant distance. End up way short on them end up three putting because of how off I was.

I have the superstroke 5.0 grip and ive found it to keep my hands a lot steadier when putting.

Why cant this style be called right hand high putting?

Also calling this left hand low this doesn't make any sense to lefty players.

I've got a thread on here about this as well. Swapped to LHL and a fat grip a few months ago. Only felt weird for a couple of weeks if that. Sooooooo much better. Distance control is vastly improved, Sooooooo my second putts are consequently a lot shorter. I'm still not a great putter but I at least new hold my own.

I switched to LHL years ago and will never go back..[ I'll take that back I hate saying I'll never do anything]...

Anyway when I putted with a standard grip my problem was slightly pushing putts always..LHL solved that problem...

It took about 1 year to make the change...it's set now...

As a side note years ago....for 6 mts, I putted with my right hand only [ I'm a righty ] it astounded me how well I putted... I kept track of my progress and I putted a bit better than 90% of what I putted with 2 hands...My lag putting 1 handed was just as good as with 2 hands...My short putts is what stopped me from going one handed..under pressure some  short putts didn't work as well..I now use a super stroke putting grip and for kicks I putted one day with 1 hand and it's scary how good I was with that fat grip and 1 hand...but I'm still putting LHL for good..
