This could be true, but I would make sure that he's not getting too back on his heels as well. For me I have to feel like I am almost more over the ball more often because I tend to get back on my heels too much, and get too straight legged.

Good stuff guys, yeah agree with everything that has been said. BTW you have a really nice motion.

The knee bend and arch in the lower back are related IMO, if you lessen the arch, I think the knee bend will look great.

Here would be my priority list

- Strengthen left hand. Grip more in the fingers, heel pad on top.

- "Tuck" your tailbone under you at address, more of a feeling. Will soften that lower back and help you.....

- Lower the eyes, allow the head to "hang"

Thanks for all the help guys!!

Any feels for rounding out the lower back?

There are some drills I included in the posture thread, they're in the first post. Also what I said above.

Any suggestions on practicing?  Is a mirror the best for static position practice?  Or video, and check?

All the above are good. I would start with a mirror and definitely film it when you go out and practice.

Yea, if I can just point this out from this photo I included earlier in the thread:

Camera height is playing a bit of a role here, but notice how we can't see Rock's face at all, but we can see yours pretty clearly.

And as always, agreed with the mirror work. It's a great way to see if the new feels you are using are doing what you want them to.

Thanks again guys.  I will work on these items and post more video when I see improvement (or get stuck trying).

One of my pet peeves is guys getting solid advice (on here), and ignoring it.  I will try hard not to be "one of those guys".

No problem, good luck with all of this. It looks like a lot, but keep focus. If you need some good information on how to practice correctly, take a look at this thread

Well I picked up a mirror last night.  I practiced setup positions off and on most of the night.  I left it in the living room, and periodically would setup a few times and check position in the mirror.  Is this a good way to go about this?

Also, while I am working on improving this, should I not be hitting any balls for a bit?  I was thinking to ensure that I get the setup down pat before I chance changing things by swinging.

Yea. I try to position the mirror for decent down the line and face on views when using it. Or sometimes reverse down-the-line. Too bad I don't have eyes in the back of my head, or else I'd do rear view as well.... although, my head would be tilted down, so even if I did have eyes in the back of my head, they'd be facing the sky. :-P

Nah, I don't think you should stop hitting balls, or even playing rounds. The season's too short, first of all :-D , and even though these changes are great to practice at home with the mirror, I think it's more than beneficial to hit some shots with the new grip and setup too.

Remember, your priority right now is to actually make the same swing you're making now, just with a different grip, setup and ball position. Sure, you'll have to make minor adjustments as a result, but basically just try to swing the same way you normally do.

Happy to hear that answer. :-D

To be honest, I was not looking forward to not hitting balls, but was willing to do whatever is necessary.

Mirror work is excellent, remember feel is not real. Watch yourself doing the new moves, positions etc, then correcting them is what you are trying to do. Engage as many of your senses as possible, feel and sight, balance, pressures. Be engaged fully in your practice is the key. Do it, Observe it, Correct it   DOC

Just read your thread for the first time. Your swing is awesome man...love the tempo and fluidity. Reminds me of zach johnson kinda (without the super strong grip lol). Some great advice given too, as usual. Stoked to see how your swing improves.

Thanks for the kind words. Zach Johnson? My dreams are not even that big. I still struggle to hit the ball solid. Fat shots, thin, you name it. Well, hopefully I can get this posture and grip issues cleared up soon. Then I will post some more.

I'm going golfing!! Finally some decent weather. I had the day off, so I called the course. They said back nine is open for walking. I'm pretty excited. I have not played since October.

Just finished up. Shot a 44. I was playing very well and then doubled 17 and 18. Gonna chip and putt for a bit. View from the practice green. If you look close, you can see the ice on the big lake.

Here are a couple of videos I took while at the range this past weekend.  Posture definitely looks better, but certainly feels different.  It is starting to feel more comfortable as I practice it more though.  At address it feels....for lack of a better word...restricted??  Like there does not feel like there is enough room to get the hands through?  Maybe this is just because it is something different than I am used to though.

When I look at frame-by-frame of the FO it appears to me that I have a pretty decent flip going on.  Probably does not help with contact, and I suppose could be the cause of my fats and thins.

Also, does anybody have any thoughts on the restricted follow through?  This does not happen with a practice swing.  Definitely a mental block related to hitting a ball.  I think I will take some videos of this sometime.

As before, I appreciate any help.

Stand closer to the ball, and stand up more. A good drill for this would be stand about 4 inches from a wall facing away. Then get into your golf stance. Your butt should barely be touching the all.

So you want the no arch in the lower back. Rounded upper back. Your butt shouldn't be more than about 4 inches from the back of your heels.

You on the left, Rory on the right.

Stand closer to the ball

He probably won't have to do that. The rest is right, but he can probably just let the handle go up a little but still have his feet in basically the same spot.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
