Ernie lifted it because he thought it was embedded/plugged.
So, I can see how if you thought it was plugged, to where it pops out without any problem at all and you can feel the club slide under the ball without getting into the dirt/mud at all, that you could feel that you didn't replace it properly.
There's a big difference between a ball that's almost plugged versus one that's even 1/4" above the dirt/mud.
Mine has changed I believe. My pet annoyance is the fall weather season. The time of year where Ma Nature instructs all the leafy trees to shed, thus providing numerous hiding places for well struck balls.
I used to hit 3w over driver, and dropped my 3-5 irons to use a couple hybrids. It made me feel more comfortable at the time, and there's nothing wrong with that.
The issue was obviously my swing, particularly swinging steeply into the ball.
It is tough when a golfer struggles with their full golf swing. Though I think he was pretty high up in strokes gained from tee to green earlier in the season.
Especially when he is contention. I hate watching him golf when he's in contention. He'll back off the ball a number of times.
