I'm sure it's in one of the videos.

Your right hand feels like it's dealing cards on the backswing. Palm up feeling.

Are we talking the way I would deal cards playing 99 with my family or the way @JetFan1983 deals cards at his gig at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City? :-P

Got it, thanks.

I had a nice pitch yesterday with a lie in between 2&3 where I had to keep the ball low to go under tree branches.  The green was uphill about 7 feet and the flag at the other end.  I used a 5 iron with the pitch technique. It worked perfectly to within a foot.  The total distance was about 20 - 25 yards.  This works fellas!

Hehe, you said you were thinking about posting some pitch shots... Join @cipher and me in the fun!

Alright, here we go.  Went and got this at lunch today.  Here are the three lies from the first video:

So the first shot is close to OP lie 1, then the next one is like lie 3, and the last is lie 2.  Without further adieu ...

As you can see, I basically hit these all with the same type of stroke.  Basically, my best attempt at Erik and Mike's pitching technique.  I waffle between using the most loft and the most bounce on these shots (my 54 has 3 or 4 more degrees of bounce than my 59) but for all of these shots, I'm using the 59.

And here are the lies from my FO video, and they are basically all variations of lie 3 from the OP, with the second one being a particular doozy. :)

And here is the action:

I certainly wouldn't consider myself an outstanding short game player, but with this pitching technique, it's at least (usually) a virtual certainty that I'll have something resembling a makeable putt for an up and down.  Four of the six here left me inside of 8 feet or so, but there were no tap-ins.

@Golfingdad LOL I love the shrug at the end of the first video

Thanks for posting. Enjoyed it.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of my own voice, which is why there is no audible narration, but that was my, "well, those last two weren't the greatest, but I didn't whiff!" expression.

Well obviously I would never hit it under a tree

Good stuff Drew, good way to test yourself too, doing it all in one take. One thing I saw on the second shot in the second video, make sure to let the club "fall" into the ball. The speed comes from the pivot and the "flip", on that shot you almost look like you tried to add speed by speeding up the hands. Does that make sense?

I should have asked that question before I hit the 3 wood!

Now that you mention it, I know exactly what you mean.  And, in fact, I wasn't really thinking about the pivot in any of the shots, so they're probably all a little off, with that buried lie you're talking about being the worst.  I was "going after it" to make sure I didn't get stuck in the grass, but yeah, I was relying on the hands for the speed.

Next time I'll concentrate a little more on the pivot. Thanks!

Ummm ....

I started to write it another way (adoo maybe??) and then thought to myself "well, that's not a word" then switched it to adieu and thought "hmm, doesn't quite seem right, but seems less wrong than the other" so I went with it.

Anyway ...

OK, here are two videos with lie #2.  These are a bit longer shots that @JetFan1983 and @Golfingdad . Maybe 20 yards.  After viewing these I noticed that I probably should be hinging the club up a little faster.  The next day during the round, I kept that thought and it worked out really well including the 5 iron pitch.

This technique also works with lies that are in divots.  I practiced a view of these right after filming and it worked like a charm.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
