I love when "no name" golfers make a charge up the board, only to disappear as quickly as they climbed. Not that I love that their game is falling apart, but it's exciting to see new guys take a lead every now and then. Keeps things interesting!

Of course, this is all fine and dandy for now until Jordan Spieth finishes -6 and wins the damn thing on Sunday. :beer:

EDIT: And of course, Bubba is already crying on the second hole . In the online stream, you can hear him repeatedly say "...pathetic. Absolutely pathetic" about 3 times. No clue what pissed him off, but he stepped off his putt and cried a little, started the routine over and dropped his putt.

People who say this course is going to play easy based on Thursday morning's scores need to hold judgment for a couple of days. The lies out of the pine barrens are good now; let's see how they consistent they are once the field and the galleries have trod and hacked through them for a few days. These greens haven't shown their bite yet, either.

Yea he's a bit emotional today. I think he was upset in that iron approach, and then got more upset with that pitch shot. Good thing he made the putt. He does look a bit unhinged right now.

Jason Day at -6 is going down fast. My only open is my 2nd pick with Senden at -3 I think.

The one downside of losing ESPN/NBC will be the marketing of the tournament. One thing ESPN does is really prop this major up, as does TGC with their NBC ties. With Fox taking over next year, ESPN will likely desert this major. And Fox is good and all, but how many people really watch FoxSports1, which is where the Open will be marketed? ESPN will stick to marketing the Masters and British now, which are the two they televise.

I think he will be right in it, he's a great player. I don't mind if you get mad at yourself and move on to your next shot, but I heard him complain about the camera man, the wind and the natural areas on 3 bad shots. He's young, and I like him, but I wish he wasn't such a whiner.

That's quite the group on day 1: Fowler, Matsuyama, Spieth. Fowler in last place of the grouping at E. Nice interview with Ricky after his round as he pays homage to Payne Stewart. Certainly kindred spirits with regards to their bold choices in attire.

You can clearly see the bunker there. You know the sand area were there is no native grass, they do stand out.

Anyone who's bet on Mr Watson for this tournament must be getting a tad anxious. I didn't expect this course to suit his game, but he's started as if even he thinks he can't win.

The more I practise, the luckier I hope to get.

Guess it blended in when I was looking....Did spot a rake, so that gave it away....

We're going to see some strategies develop off the tee as this tournament progresses. As the edges of the fairways dry out, a player is going to be able to gain a good amount of distance landing there compared to hitting down the middle, but that's going to bring the native areas into play.

Maybe someone can help me here. Does the USGA intentionally try to have fun with the pairings?

They have Kevin Stadler, De Jonge, and Shane Lowry all in the same group. (All plus size fellas)

They have youngins playing together, and old timers playing together too, I have to think it's intentional.
