When will the media come to a consensus and call it either Hoylake or Royal Liverpool?

When asked what will be an acceptable result given his lack of competitive preparation for the open, he responded "First".

Given the consensus from the "Analysts", I assume that was the comment some might consider delusional.

Meh, I expect nothing less coming from Tiger. One of the most competitive people on the planet.

He knows how to win, he won 5 times last year, and his back is fine.

Why wouldn't he say that?

Ya.  I'm a bit bored of his press conferences as well, but do people expect him to say that he's not sure how well he'll do.  He's not wired that way.  I'd be shocked if he won though.

Aside from the betting odd's, do you have a dark horse favorite..?  My top 3 were Sergio, Martin, and Paul Casey, but I'm liking Ricky Fowler as a long shot.

From Tiger's press conference

Q. Secondly, is it harder for you to win a Major now than it was eight years ago? If so, why, what makes it harder?

TIGER WOODS: I think it gets harder every year, just because the fields get deeper. More guys with a chance to win. What did we have, 16, 17 straight first-time winners and more Major championship winners throughout that stretch. It's just getting deeper. It's getting harder to win. The margin is so much smaller. It's only going to continue to be the case. Guys are going to get longer, they're going to get faster. Guys who are coming out here are bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic. When I first came out here in '97, I think, I averaged somewhere just under 300 yards, 296 or something like that. I walked around with Gary Woodland on Sunday and he said, "Yeah, I finally found a driver and a ball I can hit 320 again in the air." Yeah, in the air. So the game has changed a lot since then.

Thought I'd put the UK prices in brackets for you (I've used what we call High Street prices, rather than the exchanges) the exchanges would normally be significantly bigger on outsiders. By my reckoning US punters on those odds haven't got a single golfer shorter. Christ, to be an American bookie hey? Place terms typically paid on the first 6 or 7

It's no wonder the UK gambling industry wants access to the US market, mind you, if US punters had any organisation about them they'd be crying out for it too.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
