I don't know how I pulled a 94 out of my ass with the way I was playing. It really doesn't make sense.

My irons were off and my putting from within 3 ft was just horrible. But I kept my driver and woods between the ropes and my short game saved bogey or par more than once.

Hole 13 (par 5) says it all. An ok drive that left me with a good look at the green. I have a LSW moment and pull the 5w to get closer to an open green (instead of playing safe with an iron) and hit a laser right at the flag that stops on the fringe. This is the closest opportunity I've ever had at eagle with a very good chance for birdie, and.....

....4-putt for bogey. Yeah!!!

One of my goals this year was to break 100 on this course which is just under 6,000 yards.

Check this out. Your 10-round average:

Screen Shot 2016-05-27 at 9.41.19 PM.png

Your recent round:

Screen Shot 2016-05-27 at 9.41.35 PM.png

Nearly IDENTICAL.

So you hit the same fairways, same greens, slightly worse putting, same scrambling. But your score 6 shots below your average. My guess is penalties. Like you said:

By these stats, I think this is a logical conclusion, but who knows- maybe a deeper analysis would yield some other answer? I was just struck by the similar averages between this round and your 10-round average!!!

Added: P.S.-congrats on the sub-100 for this course. Sounds like that was a milestone in your game.

Excellent analysis. Yes, zero penalties had to be the reason the score was lower than I "felt" it should have been.

The GameGolf app is cool. It has statistics and tools I haven't even used yet. I just found out recently you can check your strokes gained against higher HC averages instead of just the default scratch comparison.

Thanks @RandallT.

Blech.  Shot an even 100 on a day when I hit the ball well (33% GIR).  Putting was AWFUL...took 46 putts.  Going out tomorrow to spend a few hours just practicing putting...this can't happen again.

I did birdie 18, which is a tough par-5 I've never played well.  That was nice.  I had to stick a sand wedge to about 3 feet to do it...because...putting.

Here is my round from Saturday.

http://www.gamegolf.com/player/saevel25/round/935900

7 over par, 38% FIR, 67% GIR!!! :-), 2.06 putt/hole :(, 17% scrambling

My driver was solid all day except for a slight pull on two holes. My irons were solid. The first hole was primarily because there was no driving range at the course. I can get away with a driver with out warm up, but iron shots can sometimes be a crap shoot. Besides that one and the strange pull draw I hit on number 16 I was very happy with my irons. Putting was a mixed bag. I really didn't make a putt of length. I had some really good lag putts. Then I had a few really bad lag putts. I think it's a confidence thing still. The contact felt good putting.

Weird day, but still fairly happy with the round. Some missed opportunities with misjudged approaches and chips. Was still able to sneak in 2 birdies. I really need to work on my wedge game as it seems to let me down the most outside of when I have trouble from the tee.

Could have been better, could have been worse. 2 bad holes and a few super long first putts. Good stats wise for the most part though.http://www.gamegolf.com/player/jeremie/round/938557

League night. Played well for the most part. Made a nice putt for par on 3 then missed a short putt for birdie on 4.

Just trying to torque the left knee on every shot. Lag putting is improving.

Afternoon round from yesterday, first time playing a full 18 with the classic version and absolutely love it.   Let me forget about stats, scoring, etc and just enjoy playing the game.

I need to straighten out my drives some more and hit my approach shots straight instead of left.   Looking at the holes, I could have dropped a bunch of strokes by actually hitting the green instead of leaving myself left or slightly short with a 10-20 foot chip.

Got to play a round today with my dad and my son. A very nice course we try to play once a year.

I played pretty well. Drove it descent, Irons were okay. Left myself in good spots if I missed. Had a couple of sloppy 3 putts.

Overall a great day with three generations of Morgan's. :-D

Long game was kinda iffy today. I hit an outright fat 5 iron off the 18th tee. Short game and Putting is the consistently the same.

Scraped it around okay today. Took advantage of the holes I had to. I really do need to practice here soon though. And my game will dip a bit when I do.

I assumed you hit long Matt, but I had no idea you had that kind of power. You may have hit your 5 iron fat, but you made up for it with a 183yd 8 iron to the green and par. To me, that's  impressive.

Another weird night, struggled with my irons but nailed the driver and my hybrid shots. The greens at the course are next to impossible to hold if you land on them so I was trying to land just short and roll on but misjudged by a little. Still better where I ended up short than if I had hit the greens and rolled off. Scored +7 42, not exactly stellar but still not bad.

Not sure what to think of this round (other than the obvious). I made a couple of poor decisions and I got my ass handed to me on those holes. Playing smart is one of the few things I feel I can control. I guess we need to be reminded of that every once and a while.

Played 27 holes today. Outside of a few hiccups my driver was behaving very well. The few times I had bad drives were when I got too quick and came way across the ball. Main issue today was trouble with short game, partially because I was putting myself into some very awkward positions that required a lot more finesse than I currently possess. I did have trouble with putting a bit as well unfortunately, either just missing putts high/low or being afraid to hit the putts as hard as I needed.

Elite Golf Tour event. Played well, shot 74, won my flight.

One of the best driving days I have had in a while. Greens were pretty slow and soft. Made only one putt of significance. Eagle putt on #14

Short game was a D. Wedges were not crisp at all. Need to work on those.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
