  1. 1. If you had a good chance to earn multiple times your yearly salary or witness the birth of your first child, you'd choose… (poll is anonymous)

    • I'd take the payday.

    • I'd want to see my child being born.

Its strange that the topic is about choosing an amount of money that is multiples of your annual salary, you acknowledge that its "hard to say" what would be the right decision for as "little" as $10k, and yet when people say they would choose multiples of their salary, you question their love for their integrity.  I don't think you intend to be mean spirited, but I do think your responses are coming across that way.

10k is a lot to most of us, and I didn't really mean to say that in a disparaging way. I am just trying to outline that there is a difference between an arbitrary number and the "largest prize in the history of the Tour". Thanks for clarifying.

Agreed.  As long as the question is worded the way it is in the OP.

If someone that has millions, misses a birth for $1,000, I think they need to get their priorities straight.

This is more or less what I was trying to say, but I also was not trying to be disparaging.

I think we can all agree on that.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

You seem to want to put "love" into a quantifiable figure, which is not that easy for me.

The real question is how much do you think your daughter's (or child in general) feelings are worth? 10K? 100K? 14M and the largest single prize on the Tour?

I think my daughter would also kill me for not taking 14M, but she might not feel that good about 10K. Hard to say really. I can ask her when she gets back from her school trip. My son already answered, but he has confidence in our relationship.

That's because your relationship with your kids is based on much more than just whether or not you witnessed their births.

True, and it started with birth for us.

When I got married, fathers were still going to court to get admitted to the maternity ward birthing rooms. It was around 1970 and my cousin was in there. He passed out when the delivery started. An alert was triggered and they had staff running to the room thinking a baby was in trouble and it was only my cousin lying on the floor. I attended my son's birth, but they whipped up a curtain when it started and I saw my kid after it was over. I'm amazed that families now have video,

You never want to think for the worst but if there were to be any complications with the birth, I would never forgive myself for letting her go through what would happen next alone.

Exactly. There were complications afterwards for us. It turned out OK, but it was a close thing.. I was needed there to give permission for surgery and I was happy to be in the recovery room when my wife woke up..

With that experience, I still voted for the Payday. As it turned out, their choices worked out. He won and the baby arrived two days later. Wow.

No, it starts 9 months earlier.  you go to the classes, you read up on nutrition for mom while shes carrying, you paint the room, you play mozart and all that other crap...all of those things make you a good parent, and the one day doesnt make or break it for anyone.  JMHO.

Also true, but I feel like that one day is built up over that time period. :-)

Well, technically, it's probably closer to 7 months on average.  Most people don't realise they are pregnant the moment it happens. :-P (BTW, when I say "most," I don't mean that as a sarcastic way of saying all, I really mean most, because one of my co-workers wives told me once that she did feel herself get pregnant when it happened.  Seriously.)

She seriously told you that?  Or you seriously believed her?

She seriously told us that.  It was at a work Christmas party and those of us sitting there were like "did we just hear that right??"  But we didn't make a big deal out of it cuz, well, why would we?  ;)

Not a doubt:

Take the pay day, you may only get one payday like that. ;-)

Of, course if she doesn't agree with you, she might not be with you that long. :bugout:

I picked birth, there's so much more to it that I can't explain, not that I can't write it down, but a feeling that's impossible to describe.  I have no issue with Horschel's decision, but I know for my wife and I, nothing would have been bigger than being there for the birth of our first child.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
