The notion that round to round score changes, whether absolute or relative to the field or leader, as a measure of a golfer's progress seems misdirected to me to start with.  Even when statistical methods are used to make the comparison.  Golfers' scores fluctuate from round to round for many reasons other than systemic improvement.  If you shoot 80 one day and 76 the next did you really GET better, in any real or permanent sense, or did you just play better?  Or maybe neither but you scored better.   Given how little he has been able to play, so far, I think a success would be for him to come out of the event with no physical issues and a growing comfort level in being out there.

I don't disagree. I was responding to the GC seeming to over-emphasize that he's improved round-by-round when I didn't necessarily think that was the case. A better measure of his comeback will be his progress tournament by tournament vs round by round.

Tiger must just want to make playing a challenge since he keeps hitting on the right side on the hole he got the 8 on.

I need to find a video of *all* the chunks and awful bunker shots. Sounds like there are about a dozen over 4 rounds.

Hey, if you simply take away those dozen chunks, and Tiger is right in the middle of this tourney!

(and by middle, I mean near the middle of the pack)

Monster drive to 222 left to a back right pin. He fans a long iron hole high right of the green, chilli dips his 3rd and 4th, runs the 5th way pass the hole, technically off the green, 3 puter strokes later to card an 8.

Wow, chunks two in a row?

Did he have any other chunks today?

Yep. I was telling him through the TV not to go for that pin, but dude couldn't hear me. He could have just aimed for the back middle of the green. I assumed he was going after the pin because he was practicing what looked like his cut, and the shot looked like a missed cut shot.

As for Jordan Speith, dude is ridiculous, he's making it look ridiculously easy out there. Seems like he made almost every putt he looked at

I just noticed that Jimmy Walker hit almost 91% GIR and finished 4 under for the tournament. Was he putting with a wet noodle? And no I didn't post this to draw the "drive for show, putt for dough" crowd out of the woodwork! ;-) They may come out full force soon enough, though!

with all those GIRs, it makes me wonder what his proximity to the hole was! Maybe all of the balls were as far from the hole as they could get and just barely be on the green :-)

    • Amazing US Open to watch. Of course I was rooting for Bryson, but a little part of me wanted a W for Rory. Hope this fuel Rory to win a major soon.  Interesting to see how much is going to take for Aberg to win his first major.  Scheffler is human, thank god.. we need more tight final rounds like this.
    • This discussion and Bryson’s media figure reminds me of a trend you see all over the place in social media and Internet in general: staging. I don’t use Instagram a whole lot, but enough to come across videos that are obviously staged, but presented as happening randomly. It falls in like with the “fake news” part of the world where you can’t trust anything. People (influencers, celebrities, politicians etc.) throws stuff out all the time that are straight up lies, pretending ignorance, or twisted to make it sound more interesting than it actually is. Then there’s the overreactions. Youtube and Instagram are filled with thumbnails of shocked content creators “LOOK WHAT HAPPENED 🫣😲🫣”, then it’s some staged or stupid shit. I miss the time when most of what you found online was not staged or stupid. The sad part is that it works, generate clicks, ad revenue and people make millions on that stuff. At least Bryson is primarily a professional golfer. Bryson raking the 18th bunker while holding the trophy puts more of his face in the media. There’s no reason to do it, but it makes for some good photos and he’s building his persona. From the entire week you can see how he interacts with the audience way more than most of them out there. Part of it is probably just being Bryson and giving the audience something extra, but I always have the thought in the back of the head that it’s not the entire reason. Players being emotional, engaging and showing more of themselves than hitting a golf ball is good, but at some point you cross the line into being fake for the sake of attention.
    • It's not false if all they did was break ground but not build the thing until 2017. Again, the first "location" wasn't really a location if it was some dirt with a few ceremonial shovel scoops taken out of it. I don't think it was ever actually built. The second article doesn't even mention the first "location."
    • I couldnt find anything saying the first one was canceled so I assumed it was the same project. Admittedly the info on the specifics is limited. Either way, the original point of the earlier tweet by the guy was that no Payne Stewart named center was announced when Bryson started at SMU. Thats factually false. The fact that it ended up somewhere else is somewhat irrelevant imo. The two locations are only 10 miles apart as far as I can tell?
