I took a philosophy class in college that largely covered many of these and the instructor said that when arguing logically, your best friend is saying "that's not but its not relevant here". Now pardon me while I go post in another thread about how my personal experience on a single shot in 1995 means that everyone should lay up to their comfortable distance and not get closer to the hole...

If I extended the flight of my ball to 300 yards, I would probably lose at least 5 or 6 balls per round.

Courses like Burnham & Berrow, you only get ten yards of semi rough, then you're in water or gorse bushes.

I majored in legal philosophy in college and this is very reminiscent of my logic classes. When people commit one of these I know that it's better to point out their fault and abandon any hope of having a rational debate with them.
