Do you carry your bag in America?

Sun Mountain Golf X-Strap Sunday Bag - just saw it for $40 at one of the online golf retailers. It has held up pretty well thus far. I've put probably 10 rounds on it since I got it in December. One pocket is big enough for a rain jacket and small umbrella. The other pocket fits my gloves, tees, balls with room to spare. Has a caribiner for my towel and rangefinder.

I never walked when I lived in Colorado since every round came with a cart but since I've lived in Idaho I've only had a cart once (comped by the clubhouse for being new to the state).  I thought walking would be miserable but it's really not.  It's more exercise and gives one time to calm down between shots.  Unless the round comes with a cart or someone else is paying I don't expect to ride ever again. B-)

I'd love to walk more, but I never have the time. I have to fit in golf around work and school and using a cart is the only way for me to get in rounds.

Walking is the best, especially in the spring. It's just cool enough to be enjoyable.

Do courses in America ban buggy and trolleys in Winter at all?

Buggy and trolley? Cute. ;)  I refuse to carry a bag anymore. I'm too old and creaky to do it. I'm lucky to get through 18 with a pull cart. I could probably do it if it was a par 3 course, and I was only carrying 5 clubs with a mini-bag.

Same for me on the carrying part, but I still walk and use a push cart. Last year I play close to 50 rounds and only rode the seven rounds we played on a buddies trip.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Yeah, carrying a bag would hurt my back.  Still, I like to walk with a push cart.  Some courses in San Diego are good for walking, a lot are not, some don't even allow walking.

It's not so much carrying that bothers me, it's the constant up and down, off the shoulder and on, annoying.

But I walk with a push cart all the time if possible, it's the best way to enjoy golf IMO.

I did the switch last year top the push cart and carrying my bag may be a thing of the past for me.

My buddies always rode the cart when the started me on golf. After I got going on my own, I walked a few before going with the push cart. Initially the reason was that my bag isn't a stand bag. It was annoying to be constantly laying it on the ground and then picking it back up. Now, I hardly ever play a round without a push cart unless I'm with my non-walking friends in the motor cart.

I walk most of the time, carrying my bag, and it's pretty nice some times. Part of it is that I know if I showed up to a tournament with a push cart I would be laughed off the course (I've seen someone near tears because of it before), and part of it is that I can go faster while carrying my bag than most people can riding in a cart. I figure so long as you keep pace, and don't smoke foul smelling cigars or cigarettes, I don't care if you drive a Cadillac on the course (provided, of course, you stay on the cart paths with your behemoth to avoid damaging the course).

When you learn to hit the ball further than 50 yards this problem really goes away. :-P

It depends on the nature of the course. Some USA courses are built as part of a housing development. On those courses, you may two or three cases where there's 500 yards between one green and the next tee box. In those cases, it becomes difficult for walkers to stay ahead of people on carts.

Also, does the course have a lot of hills? If you have rise and fall in elevation of 100 feet from one end of the course to the other, this can make it very difficult for walkers.

Some USA courses permit walking, others require everyone to ride. You just have to ask.

Last weekend I my back hurt again so I'm off golf for a while. Seeing Orthopaedic Surgeon this week. I will probably have to push carting it for a while, when I can golf again :'(

    • Interesting for sure. I have actually had my instructor try to get me to get the elbow in front as well. That actually spiraled me into the slump I am currently working out of. I would disagree with him saying that lowering the arm might be the simplest and easiest move in golf 😄. I am having SOO much trouble making that move instead of my hands immediately moving toward the ball from the top. It's like my mind has 0 patience at the top and tells me to GO GO GO.
