Never. My first 3 wood is still in my bag, a Titleist 909F3. I had a 906F4 5 wood that I broke the shaft on and never replaced.

Still using a 30 year old laminated maple 4 wood, although I have purchased many looking did a few more yards-none have lasted long though.

I'll stick with a good fairway wood until it starts to look like hell, they last because I take pretty good care of them.

Since I do not use a FW that much I tend to replace them slower, and like my hybrids I tend to build a trust relationship with my FW ... (I know I am all over then place with my replacement strategy)

My 3-wood (Nike dymo) broke at the end of last year.

I have not replaced it yet, but plan to.  If it had not broke, I would not have replaced it.

1-2 years.  I can't seem to find a 3W that I really love.  Currently using a Nike Covert Tour (original version) that I'm getting along well with at the moment.

I am in the process of replacing my fairway woods now.  I have been using older Adams Tight Lies 3 and 5 woods, I am not even sure of the year, I bought them on Ebay.  Probably around a 2000 model?  I just replaced the 3 wood, I received a TaylorMade Rocketballz 3 wood for Christmas.  The 5 wood will be the next one I replace probably by next season. I also have and Adams 7 wood that I purchased around 2004 and I love it.  I doubt I will replace this club until it wears out.

I have had my burner 3 wood for about 8 years and it is due.

I just have to talk SWMBO into freeing up a few$$$$.

but it all comes down to economics.

As long as the wood works, I dont have to take food out of my kids mouth to buy a new one!

I want FWs that are reliable. And, the learning curve is long for me to get comfortable with FWs. Tweaking the swing works better than swapping out 3Ws every 6 months.

Played Tour Edge Bazookas (low-profile) from 2002-2008, a mix of Callaway X Tour 3 wood and other visitors for awhile, one frustrating season with original RBZ 3WHL and 7W (stock shafts too light), and since 2013 the Tour Edge XRail 4W and 7W. (I really like 4W + 7W mix!)

I just want reliable FWs.... I'm not trying to conquer the world with them.

Focus, connect and follow through!

As my votes on these polls indicate, I tend to hang on to stuff for a long time, and stuff that works generally stays in the bag.

I still use a 16* Taylor Raylor from the early nineties. Several years ago, I picked up a used Orlimar 3 with an EI-70 shaft. I still have it, but the bag it is in doesn't get much play.

The vintage bag in my sig gets the most play, and the PING fairways have been there about a year. I occasionally swap them out for my latest find, or for the Joe Powells that got me started on the vintage kick. The PING 3w is very useful off the tee, and 5w is easy to hit off the fairway.

I think I've only had four 3 woods in my life, since 1964.  The one I have now replaced the TM 3W that I bought back in the 80's, and that replaced the wooden Golden Ram that I bought in '74.  I've had this one for about 7 years.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
