This was aired in May, so many of you probably already have seen it, but I missed it and didn't see it here, so here it is. It's basically a 3D/radar analysis of Thomas's swing. The biomechanics guy attributed his distance to smash factor (1.52), launch angle (low 14) and angle of attack (low 4). Also he pointed out his pelvis lift, which was higher than the PGA average.

wow...1.52???  thats ridonkulous....

i love his swing.  so controlled on the backswing, then just pure speed and aggression on the way down.

Trying to read the chart behind the smart guy at 3:28 ish

Driver swing speed 111

Driver carry 283

6 iron carry 187

Pretty good!

But if he entered his numbers in our distance thread, he'd be humbled by how short he hits it compared to our group haha

I believe the USGA only tests the center of the clubface for spring-like effect.

I remember reading once that the ball speed is actually higher slightly above center of the clubface, that you can get above 1.5 smash factor.

Yeah this guy is a beast, will be hearing his name a lot the next few years.

I wouldn't think about my swing either if I hit it like he does ;-)

makes me so frustrated for having a higher swing speed but horribly inefficient contact.  its amazing how much farther those drives go when i just hit the sweet spot.

And hit up (positive AOA). Same kind of thing with Bubba, he doesn't swing the fastest but he hits it the furthest.

Trust me, @mvmac , I've seen @colin007 's swing in person - his biggest issue is the fact that he's a flipapotamus. :-$

But back on topic, it's pretty sick.  I wonder how long it took him to get used to being hooked up to all that equipment.

Is it weird to anyone else that they aren't measuring what his legs are doing? Yes, measuring the pelvis gives you the results of the leg's actions. But seems to me that they'd learn some interesting things in comparing / contrasting vs. other players or the 'average' on tour.

Seems like he 'jumps' with both legs more than the typical Tour player sort of like Bubba / Lexi and Rory (partially).
