Playing Alone

I played 9 holes today solo at a small course near my house. Im at about a 19 handicap and average 45-50 at this course. Shot my best round ever today at 39. I spent more time on slowing down and building a routine. Hit 4/7 fairways and 5/9 greens. Not saying playing alone bettered my score...but I think being alone to work on my routine helped tremendously. Anyone else feel the same way?

I used to play a lot of golf in the evenings by myself.  Yes, it does help to work on your game.  I did this for years.  Now, I sort of lose interest playing by myself.  I might go out and play 5 or 6 holes hitting 2 or 3 balls off the tee, putting from different locations, etc by myself.  But, rarely ever now do I play a full 18, or even 9, holes by myself.  Just get bored.

I don't think I score significantly different when playing alone.  But I will work on my game a little more if I don't have anyone behind me.

I hate playing alone. Playing by myself is boring unless I'm there to work on things. I like competitive golf and play a ton of tournaments, so when I'm by myself there is nothing to compete against. I play for free on a course I live on so I mean it's not a lost cause. Usually by myself I'll hit four or five balls to a green and not even finish a hole sometimes.

Playing alone, or with someone is pretty much the same for me. I am usually a walk on, usually get paired with someone. Other times they just send me on my lonesome way. Most likely I will catch someone and join them, or play through if they want.

I am now finding that if I walk on about the same time every day, I wind up playing with the same bunch of golfers more often than not. They walk on about the same time I do every day.

I find it a lot more enjoyable to golf with friends, but I don't mind the occasional solo round - especially if the course is fairly empty, so I can take the time to work on things.  Play a couple balls, spend a few extra minutes on/around greens working on the short game, etc.  Playing solo doesn't seem to have much impact on my score - I can have a good round or a bad round just like when I'm playing with others.

The biggest advantage to playing alone is you can walk on any course any pretty much any time you want. Spur of the moment. It's more fun to play with buddies, but most are married and can seldom golf. I've met some cool people this way and only a couple total azzhats.

Depends on where you are.  The course I worked as starter, I had days, even during the week, when I had singles waiting for more than 2 hours for a short handed group.

All the courses I go to, I can usually get on within an hour. Just time enough to hit balls and putt. ;)

I play twilight sometimes and just practice. A lot more fun than the range.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I find playing alone very peaceful.  It is just me and the course. Sometimes I play better and sometimes I don't.  But I don't seem to be as hard on myself when I make a bad shot.

I'm leaving work early today to get in 18 to get ready for a 2 day tourney this weekend. Hopefully I will play alone so I can hit extra shots. I won't do that with other people playing. I always play for score, so it's always the first ball I hit that counts if I hit extra balls. Hitting extra balls on the course just seems better for my game than range work which can get boring. And it's hot in Florida pounding balls on the range.

Yes, I typically play better when playing alone.    Playing with others who play at a slower pace or are overly chatty seem to get me off my game to some degree.    I don't play competitive golf, so its just me against the course.    I really enjoy a leisurely 9 holes after work by myself - clears the mind ...

Being blind as a bat as I am by the time I've lost 10.000 balls I get bored..........

I love playing alone. Nothing like the serenity of playing golf with nothing but the fresh air and your thoughts for company. However, I do NOT like getting paired up with strangers, so I rarely head to the course as a single.

I used to like it a lot when I was starting, it's hard to be a beginner and play with others, picking up the ball a lot, so I would frequently play alone at quiet times and practice.

I still enjoy it but prefer the company now.

But being out there alone, on a really quiet course, near sunset on a perfect day, maybe a little windy, that's a wonderful feeling, so relaxing.
