Which balls have you used and not liked?

I have read threads about which brand of balls various individuals prefer, but haven't seen a thread in which we have read about what brand or make of balls to avoid.

For me the #1 ball I avoid is Pinnacle golf balls. They just don't seem to get the job done for me

THe only balls I have used in the last couple years that I won't use again are the WIlson Elite 50 & Wilson Duo ... they just sound dead - it's a dull thud rather than a typical crack when I hit them.

Wilson Duo - got a free 2 pack when ordering some other balls - I could not hit them into the water fast enough.

[/quote] I got a bunch of Wilson Duo as free samples, and I really like them. Not quite as much as my pro-v1x, but they are really reliable in temperatures in the 40-60F range. They seem to work fine in warmer weather too. There's not too much difference in the sound from my driver. They all sound kind of dull now that I'm hitting the sweet spot a bit better. I only get that ting sound if I hit closer to the toe. There are two types, the super soft kinds for under 90mph and ones designed for higher swing speeds. I got a mix of them and they all seem to work fine. I get decent carry on both types just like my prov1x. I can check up the softer ones a little better, at least in my mind. . . I'll buy some this winter.

Slazenger makes the lowest quality balls of any recognizable name brand. The model really doesn't matter. Basically range balls with less durability.

Well ... I am sure I am in the minority, but I give away all the Pro V1s I find ... I just prefer a softer ball ... plus I tend to be cheap on certain items, and I hate losing a $4 ball. So for my playing level, I do not like Pro V1's ... there I said it.:-P

I'm sorry to hear that. Ever since I saw the movie Goldfinger, I started playing Slazenger whenever I could find it. I liked it's feel and distance and it was my number one ball for a lot of years.

Back to the topic, in the fall when the leaves start falling, I play balls that I find. I'm not fond of Top Flite, Pinnacle, and Nitro.

This thread might yield useful information if it included swing speed, smash factor, and clubs for each responder and you got about a thousand valid responses.

It's like asking what is your average score without taking into account length or slope of the course you play. It is sort of meaningless.

That being said, I throw back Top Flights into the woods if I find them, or just leave them where they lay is more like it. I don't even like using them around water. My swing speed is probably 85 -90 so I prefer a softer ball. They feel like range balls to me. I know they make better balls, but I started out, knowing nothing, buying their low end balls, because they were cheap and I used to lose a lot of balls. I grew to hate them the first time I tried something different.  I am now using Bridgestone B330s and like them. They say they include "added tour distance" but I have yet to hit one 310 yds, so I think they may be exaggerating... :^O

Titleist Pro V1. It was like hitting a rock. That's not a knock on the ball, just that it's someone else's golf ball to use.

I haven't done the research, but I think Slazinger is one of those brands, like Schwinn and Kitchen Aide, that got bought and compromised. It used to be a highly respected British brand.

Nike Mojo's and any Pinnacle golf ball.  I read a number of threads that touted the Mojo as a great value ball but I found it to be horrible.  Pinnacles feel like rocks, we received a sleeve of their "premium" balls at a charity event and just about everyone I spoke to tried one and left the other two still in the box in their cart when it they finished playing 18.

Honestly, I'm not good enough to get very judgmental about different makes of golf balls.

In this area, Slazenger is one of the cheapest balls we can get. Dick's Sporting Goods will sell you three boxes for $25. As mentioned, durability isn't a strong point, but hackers like me are going to go through a bunch of them anyway..

The only ball that I really would avoid 100% is Nitro. Every time I take a swing at one of these, it isn't pleasant.Some dude at the local course, leaves these things around like its a bleeding Easter egg hunt. Wish he'd switch brands.

If he did, he might not leave so many around.

I never had issues with Nitro balls that I find, I think it's the slick outer cover that you might not like.

This is such a dated myth.    Of course, the old Rock Flites were awful - like hitting a solid ceramic sphere.    The new Top Flites are as good as anything else in their low to mid price range.    You may not like them, and that's ok .. but to call the modern version rocks, is just incorrect.

I've found their D2 (dimple in dimple) $14 for 15 ball pack is a surprisingly decent ball.

I was a big fan of the new TF Gamer last year. Bought a dozen to start this season and 10 of 12 cracked during the course of my round. Never again.

@inthehole is cor rect on recent Top Flite balls.   They are just as good as any others in that price range.   I think it's the perception of old hard rock balls that keeps some golfers away from using them.

I love to try golf balls of all kinds, brands, models.  I didn't like Volvik (found in golf course), Nike 20XI* models, Nitro (bought at Walmart when I started playing golf), Srixon Z* models, and a few others I can't recall on top of my head.
