When to hit a fade or draw?

how do I know when to hit a fade or draw, I can hit both and need to know when I should hit them, situations?

Is your 22 handicap accurate? If so, you should probably worry about solid contact more than shaping your shots. Even the pros don't shape their shots as often as you'd think they do.

Heck, I just worry about hitting the ball fairly straight.

It was windy with a right to left wind and I was in a position on the right side of the fairway, so I tried  playing a fade with my 7 iron once on an approach shot and pulled it into the left greenside bunker.

Rule: at our level, don't get fancy.

Ok. That doesn't really change my advice to you at all. Focus on hitting solid shots, whatever your pattern is. #deadcenter

Most people down to a 5 worry about hitting it straight. Although, 5s are more successful than a 10 or 12.

Pick the one you hit target with the most and get proficient at that one.

I hit a stock draw shots 95% of the time. Maybe if I have some tree trouble or a dogleg right I'll try to get some right curve.

Can we trade ☺. I hit a fade all the time (even though I don't want to) its my stock shot. Last weekend I was left with some low limbs so I was forced to hit a draw on one shot. Other than that I'm hitting all fades. You have a more predictable miss hitting one shape than you do hitting 2.

Nothing wrong with shaping shots when circumstances require a fade or draw.

Wind conditions may benefit ball flight.

A tree lined hole with a dogleg may require play over trees or bending the shot around the contour.

It's a good arsenal of shots to have in the bag.

Although, modern golf equipment and golf ball manufacturers are making it a tad more difficult to shape shots.

95% of the shots a pro plays (Tiger Woods may be one of a group of very small exceptions, and even he isn't as different as many think) are their stock shot. They don't curve much, but if a player is a drawer of the golf ball, 95% of their shots draw. It's the most reliable, dependable way to play - with a pattern.
