Got to hit the new irons today. Not allowed to get into much detail yet but Titleist has done a really nice job with the 716 line. Best irons they've ever come out with IMO.

How are you T-MB's. Those are the ones that really interest me.

Similar looking to the AP2's at address but higher launching and a little longer.

Oooh, I might look into getting the AP1's if they're still going to be considered Titleist game improvement irons.

Yes. They're longer and more forgiving than the 714 AP1. Titleist feels like they made the most forgiving and longest iron (loft to loft comparison) on the market and you'll probably see a marketing push for the AP1 that's separate from the AP2.

I kind of hate the fact that Titleist releases their clubs in October. My season is basically over by then, so they come out just in time to taunt me ;-)

Really? I would think the MBs would be lower launching...

Im one of the biggest Titleist guys I know, but they haven't made a sexy iron in a while. I think Im going to switch to the Hogans in the spring.

The T-MB's are high launching, lots of weight low.

716 MB's will be a traditional muscleback.

If I get them, I expect that I'll spend a good amount of time hitting into my net this offseason. :)

October/November is basically the end of the golf season around here too, but its also the time that I'm looking to spend any pro shop credit I've amassed during the tournament year.

I love the way the T-MB's look. I'm not nearly good enough to game them but that doesn't mean I can't drool over them.

Available 10/23. I would assume you'd be able to get fit for them at Oceanside in October. Wouldn't make sense for them to fit you for the 714 line around the same time they're releasing the new stuff. Even if they did, the transition would be seamless. If you're fit for 714 AP2's, then the 716 AP2 is still going to fit you best.

So, I went to Golf Galaxy and was speaking with the manager and he said that they wouldn't get the 716's until next year in and around the PGA show.

I can't imagine Golf Galaxy wouldn't carry the irons if other places are carrying them.  Is the manager mistaken on the release date?

Also, Mark Crossfield did a review of the 716's.

I really hope they are available to the public by the end of this year. Id like Santa to drop off a set of those T-MB or new CB's at the house.

EDIT** According to another publication they are available in stores on Oct 23rd.

The AP1 looks awful inside the cavity. Harkens back to some of the older RAZR offshoot models that Callaway had a few years ago. The AP1 is never much of a looker, but yeesh.

I'm so glad I don't think it looks ugly.

WANT!

Looks like the manager at Golf Galaxy didn't know what he was talking about.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
