this is a pretty stock shot on par 5s and long par 4s

first, since my drive goes about 550 to 700 yards, I'm frequently hitting BACK to the green about 150 yards

I don't have a club that short, of course - but if I choke up on my putter about a foot, and then just GLARE at the ball - it usually lands about 150 yards away

so it's more a matter of making sure I get it started on the right line

Suggest a drill for working on my glare?

It's got to be strong enough for the golf ball you use, but not so strong that it looks like:

All you guys saying you hit PW 150 yards is that 150 yards carry? I know there are some strong lofted pitching wedges out there but that is a hardcore wedge shot. Do you find you're really consistent with that distance?

I kinda asked this exact same thing in the 'how far do you hit your clubs' thread.  We have this video of Spieth hitting a PW 150 and even the announcer says that's a huge PW yet... apparently random 15 or 20 handicappers around here do it like it ain't no thang.  lol

My driver swing speed can top out around 110mph and if I delofted my PW and hit it as hard as I can I'm not quite sure I could hit it 150 carry.....

150 ... on a normal day its a 7i ... on a good hitting day its an 8i. For the record I can hit a PW 150 ... i just need to hit it at least twice. :-)

Depends on a lot of things... Stock shot: 3/4 7-iron... I can hit as little as 9-iron that far, but I prefer to hit the 7-iron, I'd like it to be a smooth 8-iron, but I can't hit it that far consistently... As a side note: when I started playing 20 years ago, I had to hit a good Driver 150 yards... I can hit pretty much every iron in my bag 130 yards (yes even my PW)... 150 depends on how I feel, late in a round I walk, I've hit 5-iron, if the lie is fast in the rough Pitching wedge... I have to keep it super low Driver... It depends... But under normal conditions in the fairway 3/4 7-iron.

Just watched the Shell's WW of Golf between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus in 1995 at Pebble Beach. Tom would hit a 7 or 8 iron and Jack would hit a 7 iron. Something to think about. And a long drive would be about 250 to 260 yards.

Lofts were not quite as strong, these guys were probably swinging at 80%, and lastly playing alongside the ocean and that heavy air tends to knock the ball down also.

The winds were pretty benign that day. Not sure how the ocean affects the ball flight. Sounds reasonable. I live on the Gulf at sea level. I know I hit the ball a lot farther when I go back to my home in Western NY.

How you liking the Exotics? I have CU's I might get one of the more GI or SGI models

I absolutely love them! There a more forgiving progressive set of irons. I was shocked....launch is a lot better and the consistency is where they really shine over my pro combos. It cut my natural draw in half but in turn gained 8-10 on each iron. Fatter black & white cord tour prides with the riffle shafts are also nice. The guy I bought them from was 6'2 and had them custom shafted. And I'm 6'2" ! Overall it compares to my love of ping eye2s. Great irons!

I like my CU's, but I might pick up a set of XCG3 or one of the newer models 4-AW just to mess around with, I have heard the XCG line from 1-7 are all very long and forgiving, my CU's are on direction, but too much distance loss...

The longer irons are very forgiving, especially out of the rough.  I use Driver, 3 wood and 3-wedges and tend to stay away from hybrids for that very reason.  Also, I like a "meatier" gap wedge (125-130yd shot) and it a good amount of spin.  I paid $150 from a local course that had them on consignment.....can't beat that!

So I take it you carry 3-PW (can't see your sig on the mobile site)... Anyway after some work over the last few days, my 150 club is now a smooth 8-iron.

8iron with my E6 and maybe 7i not full with my srixon qstar

Have you tried the Srixon Soft Feel? They go forever... I'm the king of non-white Golf balls... I haven't played a white ball on the course since May.

    • Day 292: light day today. Mirror work, working on getting my hips more open in the downswing.
    • Day 135 (27 Apr 24) - played Bradford Creek today while waiting for the missus fly in from her extended visit with the grands.  Good day to stay focused as it was a hurry up (groups pressing from behind) and wait (groups taking their time ahead)…a good day to stay mentally in the game - play the shot and not get frustrated in the waiting…
    • Day 122: 4/27/24 Supposed to be a Stack training day but I was beat after yard work today. Practiced chipping and putting at The Creek. The practice green is pretty slow but the session went well.
    • Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.  Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.
