10 Aug 24 - been a while since I’ve posted here, today’s round was a solid and consistent round (41 front and back).  Only one dbl - hole 11 : tee shot tagged the overhanging branches on the right side which meant I hit a punchy 6i for a low running layup to the pond that guards the green that led to an easy 9i (should have went PW) that landed deep on the green to just barely roll off which led to a pitch with the 54 that stopped short for a longish (15’) putt that was a 2 putt for a 6.  Overall it was a solid round as the course was CPO (cart path only) due to the heavy rains from Debby this week.  Stats wise of the 9 pars, 6 were up&downs (greenside drills pay off),  27 putts total (deeply attributable to the chips and pitches putting the ball close).  Fairway misses were for the most part less than two yards deep, no biggie.  It was a good day on a wet course….

44-53=97 at Musgrove Mill Oak tees. First round here since developing tennis elbow on 6/1/24. Very discouraging. Not one aspect of my play was any good today. Pulling the ball off the tee; several 3-putts today after gaining 3.25 and 5.1 strokes putting my last two rounds. Not much fun playing this poorly.

Best round of the year, 38-42-80. Disappointing because I haven't broken 80 in 5 years and was in position to go low on the back. Putting did me in. But I am very pleased about the way I am striking the ball right now. Support your local club pro.

Played Musgrove Mill today, 44-49=93. Hit 11/14 fairways and the 3 I missed were because I hit them through the end of the fairways on 1, 9 and 16 by a combined 3’. Hit 7 GIR but missed birdie putts inside 9’ on 6 and 7. Parred 4 and 18, which are difficult par 4s. Hit over the green on 8, 9 and 10, going +8 on those three holes. All three after great drives. Need more reps! Handicap increased by 1.1 shots after the past 2 rounds. Will go up more if I don’t play better since my 20th score was a 73…

30 Aug 24 - Played the weekly Men's Golf round, today was a return solid play with an 81 (40 / 41).  The second time I've had only one "6"  - next goal is to have a "no sixes round".  Missed several birdies that could have made this an all time low.  Still a solid day of golf, with good approach shots and some great up and downs.   10 of 14 fairways hit, 32 putts, 9 pars, 9 bogies, 0 dbls or worse (a new personal best).

Shot a stress free “no sixes” 78 (38/40) with Covid on Sunday.  Practically asymptomatic (congestion and fatigue), I wouldn't have even tested myself if a coworker I was in close contact with hadn’t informed me he tested positive. Told my group I was planning to skip but they insisted I still play if I was up for it. Glad I did because I hit 13 GIR which might be a personal best, but didn’t putt very well.

43 (7 over)
Driver was iffy all 9, so had to scramble.
Triple bogie on a par 4 killed me!

Leslie Park: 82 (70.1/128). I think I played better than I scored. I have not played much lately and -0- practice has taken its toll.

Shot a 42 tonight. I went out decided to  just swing with good flow and let the swing be what it is. It was overall decent. Especially when I kept it shorter.

Shot my best score today but didn't feel like the best I've played overall. First time breaking 90 though! Shot an 86.
Almost eagled a par 4. Drove the ball to about 10 yards to the green, about 20 yards to the pin. Chipped the ball to land less than an inch from the cup on the second bounce. Was able to birdie it, great feeling!

Shot a 41 tonight. I thought it would have been worse. Started off with a DB, then a bogey. Swing didn't feel good. I found something by the third hole. I end up making a 4 on the last 6 out of 7 holes. Nothing solid, but good enough to hit a few GIR and nGIR. Pretty happy with how I played.

78 today at Minnesott (36 front / 42 back) - a new first with an even par on the front.  A big day of up and downs for par.  Only 26 putts against 4 GIR and 5 nGIR.  Was a CPO (cart path only) day due to recent rains.  Overall game was on - until 18 where I was looking at having a first “no-sixes” and made a triple 7 (tee shot in the lake, 2nd tee in fairway, shot 4 approach to right of green pin high, shot 5 bogie on the green, long two putts for triple 7.  Still a solid round and new personal best.

    • Ok, that makes sense. I was trying to wrap my head around that concept when I was writing my post.

    • I believe that 76 bpms is the tour average (or somewhere around that). I think that's from taking it back to impact. I'm not 100% sure of exactly how it works since a typical pendulum is already moving when it starts going back. The putter on the throughswing ideally would work pretty much exactly like a pendulum though. To get the exact same time period from starting the putter back to impact, you'll have to accelerate it a lot faster on a longer putt right at the beginning until it gets to the speed it needs to be to make the putter move the right distance. Probably all way too much to think about while actually hitting a putt, but bottom line is I agree entirely that a metronome is a good thing to use if you're working on your putting tempo. As to the split between backstroke and downstroke, the tour tempo lot said 2:1 is the ideal. 3:1 for full swing. 2:1 for short game and putting. Whenever I go on a SAM I am about 1.7:1 I think and I can't for the life of me get my backstroke to be slow enough to get it to 2:1. Ho hum. Last comment - if you do have a perfect pendulum putting stroke and you have the ball slightly forward of the center of your stance, then the putter should be just starting to rise again at impact and with the way that pendulum motion works, it should be very slightly decelerating at impact, which I believe someone may have suggested once 😛
    • Was going to chime in on Erik’s videos - they were and are solid teaching on better putting.
    • I'm a big fan of the metronome. I forget what my actual numbers were, but something like 0.59 seconds: my backswings, regardless of the length of the putt, is 0.59 seconds (or 0.72 or whatever the actual number was). The period of a pendulum is determined by the length of the pendulum. So, to hit a putt harder, you take it back farther… in the same amount of time. So you have to swing it faster, and thus, it comes through faster. The putter head has to travel faster to travel farther in the same amount of time. Everyone tends to have a "beat" that they like. For some it's slower, and they have to make bigger backswings to make a putt go the same distance as someone like Brandt Snedeker. It also has a metronome IIRC. 😄
