What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I shot 33-35, 68, 4 under par. This tied my best round ever. I have shot 4 under 4 times now. The last time was 16 years ago. I'm currently 62 years old. I never was in the 60's when I was in my 50's and I never thought I'd do it again. I played a par 72, 6840 yard course. And, I walked. It was a great day.

it was unbelievably hot today... just downright oppressive...
shot 88...
started the round off with a dead yank and lost the ball in the deep stuff.... managed to walk away with a bogey...
next hole was picture perfect par5... got on in 2... missed the eagle putt but got a birdie...
pretty much played bogey golf after that...
pretty disappointing but a lil better than my last few rounds... starting to get my game back in shape

at my home course

5/5/4/3/7/6/5/3/6= 44
4/4/5/5/4/5/5/5/5= 42

total of 86

fairways hit: 8/14, the driver was great again
GIRs: 4/18, this number is getting over 20% more often these days
GIR +1: 15/18, this number is on the rise too
putts: 32

The highlight was the birdie on #3 when I left a sw 3 feet under the hole for a 4 net 2! Of course the triple on #5 shortly thereafter prevented a really good score. This very cool July has been quite kind to my golf game. I'm sure August will bring DOOM.

94 (44/50)

had a nice front nine but blew my chance at breaking 90 on 10/11/12 (scored a 7/6/6 respectively, ugh). overall a pleasant round though.

81 on a par 70 (38/43). should've been a 77 or 78, but my putting completely fell apart on the back nine and i missed several easy putts and left several more 4-5 feet short, making pars tough to come by, let alone birdies.

Put up an 84 (38/46) at Inlet Golf Club up in the Adirondacks. Had only played the course once prior a couple of years back.

Wedges were pretty decent, made a few key putts.

1 birdie, 6 pars, 8 bogies, 3 doubles.

Broke 80 again today with another 79 . Exact same course I shot the 79 on last time I played, LOL. This time I shot 40/39, last time it was 36/43.

Very consistent play today. I had 1 three putt, and 1 FOUR putt, if I could've eliminated those it could've been a really great round, but I played to a 7 handicap with this round so I can't be upset at all!

Quick 9 earlier and shot a 41. 3 GIR's and only two fairways, but the rest were jut ones that rolled off the fairway. Hit one fairway bunker but had a great lie and could hit 3 wood out of it on a 510 yard par 5. 18 putts, my putting was decent, only had 2 3-putts.

94 that should have been at least an 87. I 3-putted 7 times today and I desperately wanted to throw my putter in frustration by the end of the round. I was missing 3-4 footers that are normally no problem. Other than that and 17 where I blew up a par 3 by shanking my tee shot into a pond, blowing my chip and yes, 3-putting, my game felt really great today! I had a nice birdie on the back nine sandwiched in between 2 pars which felt great.

75

37 front
38 back

4 birdies
3 boogies
2 double boogies

ball striking has improved and short game or up and down percentage improved.

practice at the open field hitting PW, 9, 8, 7, 6 irons helped my iron game and short game

I feel I can shoot under par if I eliminate the boogies

    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
