I shot a 79 yesterday. Miserable conditions, it rained almost the entire round. Had a 43 on the front and a 36 on the back, which is my lowest 9 hole score yet. I've broken 80 a few times now, but it's always right at 79. Can't seem to get below that - not yet anyway

89 today. Course wasn't easy, wasn't hard. Lowest score out there was a 68, this tournament has a load of talent. I play another round tomorrow, I really want to shoot below 85 because if I do it MAY be enough to break the cut. I missed EVERY single fairway on the back nine. EVERY SINGLE one. I went 43-46. It was frustrating at points with the driver, but oh well. I'm going to work on it at the range tonight.

I didn't keep score because today when I played, there were only 9 of us. I probably shot about +5 or so, but we were just playing skins and not our normal Southern Point + Skins game, so I was going all out on everything.

The other eight guys were 15-25 handicaps, with most 20+, so birdies on par fours or even par threes don't get you anywhere.

I managed to hit a 9-iron onto a par five from 150 out (hole is only 488 from the white tees), downwind, and two-putt for my one skin of the day, which earned me my $5 back.

That's all I'm looking to do on Tuesdays... win one skin. With a 3 competing against a bunch of 20s, it's darn near impossible. Net eagles are about the only thing that ever win.

74 today with one birdie, one bogey and a double. Putting was good but couldn't hit my iron shots close enough to really score well. But I'm happy. Making a lot of progress this summer. Belly putter has really helped me score better.

109.

First time breaking 110. The strokes are melting off with the new X20s. I still need to learn to hit long irons and a driver off the tee, as well as fix my putting, but I'm seeing huge improvements just playing ego-free golf and relying on straight shots that actually come.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

A disappointing 83 today... But after that I played another nine w/ my dad and shot a 39(+3), after being four over after the first four holes. Never give up

I freakin' tore it UP on the course today, shooting a 40 in my league match. We lost the first two holes and then went on a tear, winning the 9 hole match 3 and 1. I chipped like a mad man. Made one for birdie and had 2 or 3 others that left me with gimme putts.

Too bad I 3 putted a par 3, otherwise I could have broken 40. Never done that before.

Walked Nine. A simple little 38. 7 Pars, 2 bogeys. Played with my new driver I inherited. Struck all clubs very solid. Weirdly easy round in very hot, humid conditions.

94, which 2 weeks ago would have been one of my best scores.

My ball impact was very good, I just was putting and chipping TERRIBLY, I know now after seeing how good my score was vs. how bad I felt about my game that my score is going to continue to drastically improve.

48 on 9 holes this morning. Ball striking was not very good but I putted better today. I left myself a lot of easy 2nd putts, which I had not done last week at the same course. For the first time ever (9 or 18 holes) I finished the day with the same ball I started with, so I got that going for me.

Walked 9 early this morning. Shot 54. Ouch for you, but until I straighten out my swing, about right for me. Conditoins: Light mist with moist greens, some spotty rain later in the round. I tried out my brand new, more upright, tense-free golf swing -- probably not the best idea to learn a new swing on the course, but I figured I can't do much worse than I did last time, so what the heck. I dropped 11 strokes from the same 9 last week, so it seems to have helped. Still I am still a long way from where I ought to be. Here's some stats:

F: 1 (270yds, down the middle/slight fade)
GIR: 0 (hiss!)
Putts: 22 (wd have been 18, but I had two four-putt blow ups -- otherwise a v. good day with the putter for me)
SS: 1

Played the 9 Hole Executive at Harding Park (Fleming Park).

Shot a 5 over 35.

Hit a 350 yard drive on a 425 hole (had 75 into the green).

Also got a GIR on the 235 par 3 (first time I did that) with my 18* Cleveland driving iron.

Good day overall for my second time out in a year.

81 on the Cardinal Course at Newport News Park. Hit the ball pretty solid, most of my missed fairways were only a foot or two off, and managed a few more GIR's than normal. Course was saturated from two days of rain, and it rained on us for 5 holes then stopped. We had the course to ourselves and finished in about 3 hours.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
