What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

88 in the first day of the club championship. 4th place right now in 1st flight. Real tough setup and 20+ mph winds. Chasing 6 strokes gross and 4 on the net.

40 on 9 holes at the hardest course in my area in 20+ mph winds.

I was having the round of my life (even par) until the 9th hole where I choked and took a quadruple bogey. I still consider it to be one of my best rounds, I had 2 birdies (one was a chip-in) 4 pars two bogeys and of course the dreaded quadruple.

Played a municipal in extremely dry conditions, with super hard, bare greens. Didn't shoot well (87). But I drove the ball well (started and finished with same ball), and I putted well, and most importantly I had a great time. Never played as difficult a course as a result of conditions, but I had good company and enjoyed the challenge. Double bogeyed 2, 3, and 4-first time I've doubled three in a row in at least five years. I want revenge, but overseeding starts tomorrow.

Last time out I played 9-holes and shot a 44.. not too shabby for not playing since 8/07

Cheers,
Q

Shot 120 on 27 holes. Pretty good day, ballstriking was excellent, approach shots were great, driving was good, but the putting was awful. If it wasn't for the rest of my game being good my putting would have killed me.

Shot a 77 with 36 putts, 10 fairways and 12 GIRs on a 72.7/128 course.

I hate missing putts, and it's happening too often. Anyone got a good practice routine or book to read?

Shot 55-63-56, 9/21 fairways, one GIR. Not very happy about the round overall, but putting was pretty good. Maybe one or two rounds left in the season, then the New England winter takes over.

77 (+5) with two birds and nine pars. Iron play was pretty lousy but I made more putts than usual and snuck out of jail twice by getting up and down for par from more than 50 yards out. Beautiful day here, 70 degrees with a clear blue sky and two eagles circling overhead for most of the back nine.

Stretch.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Probably the last round of the year. 81 from the tips at AB Springs - four 3-putts and 2 lost balls were the nails in the coffin. In spite of the 3-jacks, more putts dropped than usual. The new Aldila something or other shaft in my driver is money.

I had to shoot even on the last 4 holes to break 80, but a drive through the fairway (pitched out) and a 3-putt on #16 sort of killed that dream. Oh well - twas a good season nonetheless.

I shot a 94 today, on a course I don't like, with a wrist I must have sprained over the weekend that went from marginal to nearly unbearable over the course of the round.

I played in our monthly tournament and shot 42/51 (93). After burning up the front, I hoped for the best...and then the rain came! On #10, I went 100% course management...par 5 with a carry in front of the green. I hit a hybrid off the tee, then a 5 iron to 104 yards. Licked my chops, thinking par, and chunked the 54 deg wedge right into the creek. That set the tone for the back 9, sadly. The rain trashed everyone's game, though, and I came in 3rd. I also got a CP (12 feet), so the take-home was 6 Pro V1 and 2 Tour i(x). Better than a kick in the butt!

34 holes today. 7under with three bogeys and a triple. Putter was on FIYAAA. I made around five putts from 10'-15' and three of the birdies were kick-ins. One of which was on a par-3. Almost got that fourth hole-in-one. Yay for golf!

    • In response to the first question, yes - I have reduced my average score in 9-hole league rounds by about 3 strokes.  As the attached plot chart shows, my high scores decreased and my low scores also deceased.  So I am scoring in an overall lower range. For the second question, I expect to make some improvement next year based on the results I am seeing in my recent practice rounds.  However, I have noticed that "plateaus" in scoring (and many stats) can persist for long time periods and can be permanent.  With advancing age and decreasing swing speed I may be mostly just working to maintain my current skill level.  I do expect a more consistent range of scoring as the result of frequent practice and overall playing experience.

I was lucky enough to travel with Matty Adams, John Maginnes, and Mark Carnevale as well as a great group of Golf Channel followers. I also have played in Canada, Bermuda, and Jamaica.
