36/47 for 83

Front nine was amazing. First round of the year. 10 degrees celsius.

Back nine was completely different - wind picked up to around 20mph and temp dropped to 1 degree. My hands turned to rocks.

Brampton Park Golf Club

White tees 6310 yards

Par 71 (SSS71)

Practice round

in    51 - 4 bogeys, 5 double bogeys, 3FIR, 1GIR, 25 putts (3x 2 putts, 5x 3 putts 1x 4 putts)

Out 46 - 3 pars, 4 bogeys, 2 double bogeys, 3FIR, 2GIR, 19 putts (8x 2 putts, 1x 3 putts)

- After playing in my first comp on the weekend and being unprepared to play off the white tees I thought Id get in a cheeky round after work today and played 18 off the white tees.

- 3 pars in the first nine holes is a record for me.

- I had one blow up hole (quadruple bogey) otherwise I played within my handicap of 28 :)

- This is my fourth round in a row in the 90's and my fifth in six rounds in the 90's.

- Sadly though, I couldnt putt to save myself today! I was either hitting the ball too hard or not hard enough and left myself too much work to do and even worse, threw away three of four par attempts and instead ended up with bogeys or double bogeys (3 and 4 putts on the back 9!!).

Blackmoor Golf Club - Myrtle Beach, SC 49-40 for an 89. Had a terrible 3 hole stretch where I posted 7-7-7. Missed a 4 foot par putt on 18 to shoot 39 on the back. Hitting the ball well, can't make a putt.

38-46-84

This is becoming a pattern. It's the second time I've broken 40 on the front in only three rounds so far, and I've not come close to sniffing 80. And our front is decidedly more difficult. Maybe my swing is getting tired and lazy on the back because I have hit some godawful shots. I guess I gotta work harder on conditioning,

2 - 2.5 - 3   Scores???   Nope, inches of snow we've got in the past 3 days.

My home course was "almost" bare of that horrible white scourge that's been hanging around so long this spring, now the past 3 days has buried it again.  No temps in the 50's for the next 7-10 days.  Still haven't swung a club since last November.

Does it sound like I'm whining????   It should, I am. Maybe I'll be able to get out in May.

I shot my best round ever: 88. I can see the hard work and equipment changes paying off. I hope to learn a lot from the members of this site as I work to get better.

I must say it felt pretty good . . . can't wait to get back out there

White tees 6310 yards

Par 71 (SSS71)

Practice round

in - 47, 1 par, 4 bogeys, 3 double bogeys, 2 FIR, 3 FIR, 20 putts (6x2 putts, 3x3 putts)

Out - 48, 1 par, 3 bogeys, 5 double bogeys, 5 FIR, 1 GIR, 19 putts (7x2 putts, 2x3 putts)

- pulled out the driver for the first time to try different tee positions in an effort to control my vicious power slices! Managed to it 50% FIRs for only the second time in my playing history! :) As that Teeter guys says, its better to be in trouble a long way up than to be in trouble a long way back :)

- Managed 2 FIR's and GIRS on the same holes and was rewarded with 2 decent birdie attempts! I think this is only the second time Ive managed 2 or more FIR's and GIRs in the same round :)

- Am better prepared for my second competition tomorrow!

Shot a 97. Played like crap.

I couldn't get warmed up today. It was 40 with some light to moderate wind and I felt like a statue swinging out there. Putted okay, but my short game wasn't there. 100 and in was abismal.

Still had fun.

Shot a 69 on an "easy" (most of the time) par 70 course.

Five birdies and four bogeys. Could have been a little better, and I hit a few inexcusable shots, but it was my first under par this year and the wind was blowing hard enough that nobody else lit it up either, so I was fairly happy with it.

Controlled my driver pretty well which was great because that club took the year off last year.

Shot 42 on an easy 9. Was looking even better until an 8 on the last hole. I was feeling very good about my game until that last hole when I made a bad swing on the tee and then three silly mental errors in a row.

First real round of the season on Wednesday. Was over 80 degrees in Philly. Shot a 93 which I was happy with. Made 6 pars and a birdie for a 44 and a 49. Best part of the day was 36 putts. That felt good.

Holes 9 & 18 owned me today.  Can't figure out the finishing holes for each 9 at my home course.  Hit the ball well today.  My main goal was to have double bogeys or less and I got 3 triples.

Shot a 75 on the same par 70 course I shot a 69 on yesterday. One over par on the front and four over par on the back.

Three things in play for the difference.

1. Today was a game for fun with my wife and son. Yesterday was for money.

2. Hit good putts both days. Yesterday they all went in and today they didn't.

3. Those lying weathermen forecast 74 degrees so I wore shorts and only had a light jacket in the bag and was freezing to death by the second nine and just wanted to get off of the course.

40/41 Par 72

Played pretty good in the cold again.

One birdie. Hit 10 fairways and 9 greens.

Really have to work on getting higher trajectory with my irons. Came in flat on a par 3 with an 8 iron and bounced it into the bunker.

Had 25cm of snow over the weekend - so no golf for a while.

Spring my ass

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
