I don't usually post this stuff but what the heck.  Worked a 12hr shift today and it rained almost all day.  The last hour of work it stopped raining so when I got off at 6 I headed to the course.  It was empty so I started off.  Got to #1 cold but it's a pretty easy hole and parred it.  #2 is the toughest hole on the course and hooked a drive OB.....SOB.....Double bogey.  I was 5 over after 6 and pretty much wrote off the round.  Then chip in birdie on 7, birdie on 8 and 9 and had a 38 at the turn.

#10 is my hardest hole on the course and I parred it.  That's rare but stuck a great iron from 170 out for easy 2 putt.  I was even until 17 par 3.  Dumped the tee shot about 15ft short and wrenched my back....damn.  Really hard green with steep break.  2 putt for bogey....No big deal.  18th is a par 5 dog leg but I birdie it about 50% of the time.  Not today.  Back tightened up on 17 so I sliced my drive into trees.  Punched out and was still 250 out.  Ended up with a bogey for another 38.

I'll take a 76 for my lowest round of the season and best since my knee surgery 2 months ago.  Of course I'll still bitch about being 5 over after 6 with stupid mistakes and bogey on 18 but overall it was in the zone.  All in 1:45.......

77, on a par 72, 6400 yards rated 71.  I had 4 bogies in a row on the back nine and then an eagle on 17.  Other than my eagle chip in, my short game - both chipping and putting, took the day off.  Gone.  I hit my driver great.  Straight as an arrow all day swinging smooth and getting 275 give or take 10 yards either way.  Hit my full iron shots great too.  My short game is usually the cornerstone of my game.  Not today.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.

I have a 21.2 handicap now.. having been away for a few years from the game.

my all time best score was 87 (+15)..

Today after work, went out and shot 81.. (+9).. not even sure what happened or how i shaved 6 shots off my all time best and not even close to my handicap.. but that was fun.

first time at 81

first time back to back birdies..

man golf can be this much fun? :)

Played River Bend Links in Tunica today from the white tees

69.1/113

Shot a 99 which I'm happy with being that its only the 3rd time I've ever broke 100.  All 3 times have actually been out of my last 4 games so  I'm feeling better about my game.  Being that I'm running off about 11 hours of sleep in the last 3 nights due to the baby I was actually expecting a lot worse.

Today was my first time ever shooting even par for an 18 hole round. 4 birdies, 10 pars, and 4 bogies - even par 72. The course is fairly easy, though. The 72 plays to a 2 handicap. I'll take it, though! Yesterday, I carded an 84 on the same course... It's amazing how one day you can stink up the course, and the next everything just seems so easy...

84 Sunday on an easy course 69.3/119. Really played better than that. If not for a shank that came out of nowhere and flew into a pond, leading to an unfortunate triple after what should have been a birdie opportunity it was a solid round. Really just two bad shots that ran the score up.

Shot a 93 up in Door County. Course rating only 65.8 but man the trees and rough made it very unforgiving. I lost 8 balls! I was hitting my irons a little bit right, I think it's because I used to have a draw, almost a hook really that I would compensate for, but the last few times on the range I corrected that, but then playing I still aimed right. I hope that's what it is anyways haha I also could have putted better. I only had 31 putts, but with only 22% GIR, I should be pitching/chipping much closer to the hole.

Played River Ridge (Victoria Lakes course) in Oxnard yesterday; white tees, 70.3/125, 6351 yards. Shot a 94, including an OB penalty (but no other penalty strokes). Shot of the day was for my third consecutive GIR on #12: hit a 6-iron really poorly, worm burner at that point. Skipped 4-5 times across the water in front of the green, hit the rocks at the edge of the pond, and hopped up, landing 15 feet or so from the pin. I missed the putt but tapped in for par.

I shot a 99 this weekend, which was my first time to break 100. My previous best was 107, although that course was rated 70.1/129 compared to this course which was 67/112. This was also a 9-hole course that I played twice but was still par 72 when playing 18. Would you still calculate your handicap the same way for this even though it was a 9-hole course?

The bad thing is, I hit one stupid shot that cost me 2 strokes on the 15th, then my drive hit a fairway bunker on 17 that led to a triple bogey, and I hit the water on the par 3 18th which led to a triple bogey. If I had just gotten a bogey on those last two, and not been stupid on the 15th, I could have easily shot a 93.

3 shots were ones were they were semi shanks. It was bad, all my divots were very deep, i just couldn't maintain any sort of ball striking. Thank goodness i 1 putted 3 times. I ended up with 3 balls in hazards.

Had probably my best round of my golf career(not much of a career) shot a 84 on a par 72 from the tips. Could have been a few better I rushed a few shots on the last 2 holes it was getting dark and the mosquitoes were horrible but Ill take it hit a ton of GIR and didn't lose a ball.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
