A "Maltese Falcon"?

It's when you think you're picking up a birdie and walk away with a bogey.

I'm not sure, given where Rory played his third from, that he thought he'd make birdie, but I don't think he saw three-putt as a likely outcome either.  But it's a great golf term!

Jason Day makes 4 the hard way on 13, and he's back to even par.

Nantz mentioned Matsu finished behind Patrick Cantlay for low amateur in his first Masters. I haven't heard that name in a while.

I feel like Rory is just making stupid decision after stupid decision. They both hit a bad shot, but because Jordan hit 3W, he's fine and can slice away to safety again. Rory's striking it better, but just gets like a bull to a red rag at times.

Edit: then again, that's an absurdly good third shot...

That has to be the greatest golf term ever.

Oh my shit. Jordan Spieth your ability irritates me. Wake up Rory! You spend 7hrs a day at the gym compared to Jordan's 15 minutes and he is better than you right now. Wake the hell up.

Side note: Cantlay's caddy just died recently by a hit and run driver while he was a pedestrian. He was like 24; real sad.

The Maltese Falcon (I'd give it a birdie)  is an example of a tv/movie/fiction trope - the MacGuffin

Rory does have better pecs than Jordan, I give him credit for that.

Totally irrelevant to golfing ability, though.

Chekhov's Gun! Don't introduce a falcon to the story if the falcon isn't going to gouge someone's eyes out with its talons!

I'm not a fan of laying up on reachable par-5s, but it's hard to argue with Jordan's result a moment ago on #8.

Chekhov's Gun!

Chekhov's gun would like it someone was playing really well, but not scoring, but then eventually goes on a birdie run.

What an amazing two-putt by Jordan at #9.

... and Smylie Kaufman makes a great approach (hole #14)
