I'd wear my WFUV hat, a public member supported university radio station that plays everything from Bill Withers to Massive Attack to Beck. It's not pretty, but it's my FU to the watering down of music by Clear Channel.

Here's the thought process: no one knows or cares who I am, and I'm probably not going to be on the front page of the leaderboard come Saturday and Sunday. I want to stand out, because that's the only way the TV directors are going to cut to me, and the only way friends and family will see me.

I'd wear a fashionable straw hat. Even if I only hit one good shot all week, the broadcast crew is going to show it, because the announcers love to talk about random players who remind them of players from the old days. Stick an approach shot or make a long putt, and they'll say I'm getting around the course like Sam Snead/Chi-Chi Rodriguez used to.

Bryson DeChambeau already took my hat style... So probably an umbrella hat or something that will draw attention to me.

You're braver than I am. I would be too afraid the blue bloods at the USGA/R&A/ANGC would ban me for life if I wore one of those.

Assuming I played well enough to qualify and make the cut, they'd probably not say anything.

The Masters tournament committee stepped in within seconds during a pre-tournament press conference to tell Rickie Fowler he couldn't wear his cap backwards. I can't imagine them being more lenient on a player walking to the first tee looking like a prop comic. I don't think they allow paying spectators onto the property wearing those things.

I will second this, but with a minor correction. When Rickie had his hat on backwards one of the Augusta National members actually reached out and turned it around for Rickie nearly as soon as he put his hat on. Keeping that in mind, the odds of you being allowed your umbrella hat are close enough to zero that it wouldn't even happen with a signed permission slip from Bobby Jones himself.

More importantly than being a disgrace to the game, or looking like a clown en route to shooting 80, think of what typical British Open conditions do to umbrellas. That thing is going to be waging a war against your head and neck on every swing at a links course.

Gambler style straw hat, if I wore anything at all.  I have several gambler style straw hats but they are not the "one size fits all" variety with some logo band on them. Mine are not really golf hats but serve the golf purpose well and all of them have leather hat bands similar to what you would see on a cowboy hat.

I would definitely wear a Clemson hat every day.  Or possibly one with the logo of the company I work for just to give them a shout out.

    • They sure do. 158 with an 8 iron is on the high end for me
    • Went back to controlling my knees. That part was getting a bit sloppy when I worked on my backswing. Right hip didn't slide or gain internal rotation. I would just rotate back and around and the left knee would be in a bad spot. Really focusing now on keeping my left knee very stable and straighter in the backswing. I can't go back to the old pattern of overturning the hips. I was returning to my old pattern to time my downswing. Turn forever.  Left knee controls both knees and hips, acting as an anchor. Feel like it straightens a bit.   Hinge sooner and faster. Not in a way that sends the hands out and flips the club over. I still noticed when the hands get to A2.5, the hands would want to flip over and flatten the club out a ton.  Still trying to figure out how to roll the forearms a bit open and not just roll the club inside a ton.  Figure out the timing to get the hands down. Still getting a bit of right elbow collapsing in the downswing because the arms are too high when I turn. Everything is happening sooner now. If the hips are controlled, the backswing is shortened. Because it is shortened I don't know when to get the hands down and I just turn because the downswing is a go.  Very slow (50%) swings are decent.
