Decent field but also a lot of names I don't recognize. Hopefully Spieth can get back on track.

Good opportunity for Spieth, he knows the course better than anyone in the field and he's obviously the highest ranked.  Wish he'd have gotten a couple more competitive rounds under his belt last week but given his upcoming schedule, having the weekend off probably was a blessing in disguise.

I have access to tix but too much going on this weekend so probably won't go, I'll DVR it.

OK -- the ATT Byron Nelson has 5 past Masters Champions in the field - who can name them

Haven't looked at the field list but for giggles, I'll guess.  Spieth, Z Johnson, Phil, Bubba, Schwartzel.  Close?

No Phil or Bubba this week...the other two are Cabrerra and Weir (for God'sake)....

Yeah, if Bowditch was 2 under, you know conditions were pretty soft.  I think Spieth benefitted from those conditions quite a bit, but it looks like he'll get 4 rounds in to work through that push fade he's struggling with at the minute.

Spieth is T1 with a -11

The Hat is flirting with the cut line at -2 with 4 to play.

That's my boy, but bummed I won't get to watch his round today since coverage doesn't start til 2:30 CT.  Only saw his 1st 9 yesterday because GC cut out to a Web.Com event.  Oh well, I look forward to the weekend.

Apologies if this has been discussed;  I have this on in the background while I'm writing a report for work.  Isn't this event supposed to be held in Texas?  There seems to be a distinct lack of wind today.

Kind of surprised to see Ben Crane at the top.

True, but the Irish Open is also being held this week. That's where the current Master's champ, Rory, and a few others are playing.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
