Care to elaborate?

Those scores would indicate your handicap is not -7.4, more like -15.

Those numbers don't add up.

Those tournaments are from a few months ago, in those months I've dropped to a - 7.4 I haven't played in a tournament since but in June I will play 4 and I'll try to do the same for July and August

So for some back story I had played a little golf here and there up until januaty 2016, it was my junior years golf season start and I wanted to be good. I was a 100s golfer in 2015 and these were my 2016 results thus far 101, 98, 95, 93, 93, 90, 87, 91, 85 each new score is one week later and new tournament. I have started practicing everyday and now work at a golf course and have improved vastly (partly thanks to my swing coach Mark Gray I highly recommend his website www.theprozone.net) as of today my handicap calculated from April 25th to may 22nd is - 7.4

Okay but that is not how handicaps are calculated. If you had an official GHIN handicap it would be calculated on the 15th of every month.

Also (yes I am being picky) but your handicap should be a 7.4.....not a -7.4. There is a huge difference between the two.

Technically it's -7.4 when worse than scratch but commonly the negative sign is dropped.

That's why I'm a +1.x on GAME GOLF.

I agree, he must be leaving out scores because the scores he's listed do not represent a -7.4 index.

Your +2 on 9 holes sounds a lot better than your tournament scores. They're just saying that your tournament scores seem to indicate a higher handicap than 7.4.

List all your past 10 or 20 non solo played rounds, then we can estimate your handicap better.

These are the last 15 scorecards I could find from the same place they're listed chronologically, the 81 was on April 29th and the 79 was today! Also could someone elaborate on how slope rating for a course works? (ps these are all shot on a par 71 course in kyle, TX called plum Creek golf course)

Technically a - 7.4 means you average 7.4 above par and +7.4 means the opposite, I started adding the minus because some people online thought I was shooting like 8 below lol

I'm a college professor with several former students who were golfers. Here's a couple of things you need to do:

  • Work on time management. If you gain a spot on a college team, golf + academics will take up a lot of time. You will need to coordinate with your professors to keep up on your assignments when you miss class for tournaments. And, during spring tournament travel and at night, you will need the discipline to read textbooks and work on assignments - not goof off with the guys.
  • Learn to use Pareto analysis. This quality-control tool focuses on identifying the biggest problem within a system - in this case your golf swing system. Once you identify the #1 problem, you work to solve it. Then, you reassess, find the next biggest problem, and work to solve it. You keep improving. Overall, you must work systematically to develop your game. Hence, the caution from iacas about your spring golf outings...

What are the CR/slope ratings for the par 71 course?

You can estimate your handicap by taking the average of your best 6 scores (because you have 15-16 scores posted). Then use the slope and CR to calculate your differential.

AVG= (76+77+77+78+78+78)/6= 77.3

Assume blue tees: 70.7/125

differential= (77.3 - 70.7) x 113 / 125 = 5.9664

CR and Slope are bold above.

Multiply by 0.96 to get 5.73 rounded to 5.7 handicap.

If you played the black tees, then you would have a 2.5 handicap.

Likewise from the white tees, then you would have a 6.9 handicap.

Wow that's awesome thanks! I actually play from the forest tees which are not on the site for some reason but they are between black and blue, and on most holes share a tee box with the blues

Nice! My home course has gold tees which are a bit shorter than the tips. You can tell because there's sometimes a tee box behind the gold tees.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
