To put in as many hours of coverage as they do, they've just got a ton of talent spread out across the whole thing that they make it look effortless to cover without missing a beat or looking tired.

Yep, same with us - makes a real difference when you're going from quality to quality. Our downside is that Monty always inevitably turns up bitching. This evening, he's just come on moaning about how he was 'the wrong side of the draw'. Sure, that's the only reason...

Currently focusing on: Key 4 - shorter backswing.

What's in the bag: Callaway X2 Hot Driver, Titleist 915F 3 wood, X2 Hot 3 Hybrid, 3, 5-AW Apex Pro irons, 54*, 58* Cleveland RTX, Odyssey Versa 1 Putter

Not sure I've ever seen a draw where one half is doing so much better than the other half. It's just incredible. Like I said earlier, this is the one part of The Open that I don't like.

Ha! We see Monty on NBC/Golf Channel from time to time now (haven't seen him this time), and he's been great. Upbeat, insightful, and not afraid to call it like he sees it- even if might ruffle a feather or two. Sorry to hear he's moaning and groaning about it now, as I was starting to like what I thought was a new, more relaxed persona in his semi-retirement.

Don't get me wrong, I like him, as long as he's not talking about himself. For everything else, he's great!

@ChrisP - I can see that, but I'd take this over a two tee start every time. It's great to get up at 6.30am and have the golf on for 12 hours straight. I'm just hoping this weather clears up for when I'm up there in ten days!

They can always start playing like our amateur tournys.Shotgun starts. That way they are all out there in same conditions and wont need all day coverage plus they play in 4sums.

Yanni's theme is back, bagpipes and all, called it back in one of the threads before it might be used.

This is getting brutal. Tough when they can't reach a par 4 in regulation... Fun to watch though, as we've all been there!

Day just hit a 5i 40 yards short off the tee and Fowler pulls his 5i out and lands short too.  Given the wind and rain you'd think these guys would be paying more attention to what their competitors are doing and react accordingly.

Agree, and I love the nasty weather. It's fun to watch and makes the Open the Open. But it just stinks to see Mother Nature give half the field a pass.

Either that or Fowler really backs himself...

I need that crew of people helping me to look for my wayward drives like Stricker has.  I'd drop my scores by 3-4 shots.

Every time I see them find a ball that would basically be impossible to find without so many eyes watching I get a bit envious. Even if I had to take an unplayable I'd still probably save a shot by not having to take stroke and distance. Lost a ball last night because pretty much nobody was watching or cared to help me look for the ball. I'm fairly certain that if they had given me a little help we'd have found it and I'd have had a chance to make the green even from the long grass where I'm pretty sure it went.

Drives me crazy because I try to watch everyone hit their shots so I can help them locate balls off the fairway but they almost never return the favor.  A few claim they aren't able to track my ball, so I switched to orange Volvik Vista's thinking it would help them see it easier but they still claimed it they couldn't track it.

Crazy with all those people they couldn't find Stricker's first ball.

The top-15 on the leaderboard right now ALL from one side of the draw. Can anyone ever remember a major where through two days it was as lopsided as this? Amazing. Like I said, the beauty of the Open.

I guess Trackmans are waterproof. Those on tripods behind Day and Fowler are totally exposed to the elements.

Post-round interview, Spieth says on 16, he was aiming 60yds left and hoping the wind would bring the ball back to the fairway.

    • It’s winter here and time hitting at my indoor place.  This year I bought and sold a few sets so I didn’t settle in on anything. For this coming season, starting now I have a choice to make.  What set would you guys use? 1.  Nike Vapor Pro irons - They are like new, hit them some last year before I had to demo other sets.  I love them, original grips, barely used so I’m almost not wanting to use them to keep their value up.  Standard LLL and standard grips. 2. Taylormade P7TW irons - Still in the box.  Got them over a year ago but had too much to hit, never used them.  Have used a set in the past and loved them.  Ended up with my own set custom fit to me -1/4”, 1 degree flat midsize grips.  These are probably not as valuable because they are still available and they are fit to me. I hate to put the Nikes away but it makes more sense to save them than the TW’s…. I dunno….
    • Day 215 (3 Dec 24) - Another very chilly day - opted to work on easy pitches in the backyard. Worked thru the irons and wedges - focused on foot position and tempo.
    • Yes. I believe in using the same ball all of the time, including chipping and putting practice. I use the orange Callaway Supersoft.  Only $25 per dozen, and sometimes on sale for $20.
    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
