:~( Tell us how you really feel about Jimmy Nantz!

Heh. To be clear, I think Nantz does a fine job. But he isn't as good as he once was. He is also too close to the participants in all sports. He was asked earlier this year about if he would talk about Peyton Manning's HGH allegations on the broadcast, and his response was ridiculous. I'll put a link in at the end of the post.* It didn't escape me that Jim Nantz has made commercials with Peyton Manning.

Also, I need to find who used the term "no saccharine video montages" and give them a reputation point, because those things need to be minimized. I like Jimmy Roberts, but today he did a piece on Bobby Clampett, and at the end expressed his reservations about asking the subject about his Royal Troon collapse. Wait, what? THAT WAS THE WHOLE SUBJECT OF THE PIECE. You're at Royal Troon. Are you telling me that you were just going to do a story on Clampett being a golf teacher? Because nobody gives a shit about Clampett simply being a golf teacher. Roberts expressing his "reservations" are the exact reason why "saccharine" is the perfect descriptor.

I'm not saying that we should do away with these pieces altogether, but they are far too ubiquitous in golf broadcasts.  Too many moments where I'm rolling my eyes, wanting to see somebody try and get up and down from the coffin on the postage stamp.

Looks like Rory is wearing a catcher's chest protector.

McIlroy's putter continues to be his biggest issue. Imagine if he could just putt somewhat well. I've said this before, and I know he and JP have a great relationship, but I think he needs to explore going to a caddy that can help him with that part of his game because it's a trainwreck.

Agreed - I think we say it every major. And/or a different coach for his putting/reads. It's so far behind the rest of his game...

I'm loving the top of this leaderboard - it'd be great for either Phil or Stenson to win, nice to see Keegan back up there and I really like Patrick Reed, who's made a seriously good start. Should be a good few hours!

The new emcee on the first tee can't match Ivor Robson's vocal cadence.

Patrick Reed makes four birdies in a row, then promptly leaves himself buried in the Coffin at the eighth. That's links golf.

Oh, Rickie.

If I hit two shots in a row onto the railroad tracks, I don't know if I'd hop onto the next train that goes by, or let it run over me.

I am starting to admire Fowler a bit. Even after that two obs resulting in an 8 he just doesn't seem to be letting anything get to him. Still playing solid golf. Sticks it close on the par 5 for a good look at birdie. He really seems to be growing as a golfer. Look forward to seeing how much better he gets in coming years.

Not sure admire would be the word I'd use. I'm a bit disappointed in him. Just not turning into what I expected. Great guy...like him....but the one knock on him is he doesn't work hard enough and it's been showing in the majors the last couple years. Just seems ever since last years Players when he was out to prove something that something has just gone wrong in the big events.

Such a shame that two of my favourite players, Rose and McIlroy, have ended up throwing their clubs at the ground pretty hard because they've gotten frustrated. If any of us did that, we'd be politely asked to leave and play somewhere else. I get that they are playing for a living, but surely they need to be setting the example.
